This is Jenny Chapin on behalf of Expert Village. I’ll be talking about a style body work
called zero balancing. If you’d like to know more about my private practice and acupuncturing
zero balancing and my yoga teaching, please check out my website at www.jennychapin.com.
A zero balancing session starts working on the lower body. I’ll make contact with the
persons lower legs, give their feet a little bit of a rub just mostly because it feels
really good and it helps ground people. Then I reach underneath the heels and lift the
legs up, not very far, and do a gentle pull on the feet and the legs. What I’m checking
for is how far up the body does that energy connect. Does the clients chin shift down
towards their feet or does it maybe not go up that far? That gives me information about
where energy is being held in the body. When I work on the legs, I hold underneath the
knee with one hand and I always keep good contact so that the person knows where I am.
The kind of touch that we use in zero balancing is called interface and it’s a very clear
sense of boundaries. In interface, I know where my body begins and ends and my client
knows where his body begins and ends. When we use interface as a way of touching with
bodywork, the touch is very clear and it’s very safe. Because the boundaries are so clear
the client doesn’t have to worry about taking care of me, the practitioner, and I get to
do my work focusing on what I feel in my hands and at my fingertips without worrying about
my energy going into his body and mucking up what the signs or the energy…without
mudding the information that I’m receiving through my fingertips. So I start with a little
pull on the legs, put in some traction, go underneath. When I’m underneath the body,
I’m pressing my fingertips, my fingers, up into the persons body to feel what the
energy feels like. If I find a place where it doesn’t feel great I’ll just hold my
fingers there for a moment so that fulcrum then is that steal point around which energy
that is not very clear can become clear if it’s ready to.
