Thanks for watching my 2 episode review of Ironside. 2 episodes is what I normally give
a show that gets my attention. Two episodes to keep me or lose me. I have to be honest
about Ironside. I didn't want to like it because it's so different from the original. I loved
the original. That ran for almost nine seasons and starred Raymond Burr. The original was
set in San Francisco, this one is set in NYC, with Blair Underwood playing Ironside. In
the original, Robert T. ironside was shot by a sniper and forced to retire and became
a special consultant. In this version, Ironside is shot by his partner, accidentally but remains
a detective. Can a cop stay a cop if he's bound to a wheelchair? I don't see why not
but I'm not in that world and it is TV. So I guess the answer is yes. I thought this
was going to be like Kojak, when USA brought it back with Ving Rhames playing Kojak. That
was straight ***. The flashbacks that tell the story what kind of cop Ironside was before
he was paralyzed. To see his vulnerability as a man in a wheel chair. To see that he
still can function sexually, although I don't need to see that every week. It would be great
if they got Don Mitchell to play Ironside's dad or some other role as a cameo or recurring
role. Don Mitchell played Mark Sanger in the original. I hear Danny Glover will be playing
Ironside's dad, Frank. Spencer Grammar, Kelsey's daughter, plays Holly, a detective that works
with Ironside. The story lines haven't been that interesting. But there's something about
it that makes me want to see it again. Maybe it's to see if there'll be an homage to the
original. The show has been criticized for not using a real physically challenged actor.
My guess would be the show needed star power to get it off the ground. My recommendation?
If you have no favorite show to watch, give it a try. If you have a favorite, go with
that. Leave a comment and thanks for wathcing my 2 episode review of Ironside. I'm Tony
Scott.
