Welcome!
We are finally on episode ten, TEN!
of "Películas que No."
You can't imagine how sentimental I get about these things
Before starting
I'd like to tell you two things. FIRST! Look at the sneakers I got.
SECOND! The other day my grandma came by and said:
Aw, Laurie! Thet's so cute! Are you drinking mate? This is my microphone.
After these distractions it's time
to start EP10 of Películas Que No. This is a satellite
of Spoiler Planet. If you don't like spoilers, you shouldnt have come, I don't know
what you are doing here.
Sam Bell works on the Moon.
He is the only man that keeps the SARANG base running.
His job is to collect Helium-3, used to generate energy
on Earth. He looks after the Base, that's also his home, and checks the harvesters daily
for technical issues and to avoid late delivery of the material.
Every working shift lasts
three years, and he is 15 days away of coming back to Earth
and to his wife and baby daughter. The only company he has is a robot
called Gerty. He is like a HAL9000 but not so creepy and with
emojis. Things start to change
when Sam Bell has an accident and loses consciousness
to be soon rescued
by Sam Bell. The movie Moon was released on 2009
and has so little main actors it scares you.
Sam is played by Sam Rockwell. We know him from Charlie's Angels,
Iron Man 2, Seven Psychopaths, and A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
The voice
for Gerty is lent by
Kevin Spacey, who we know from movies like American Beauty,
The Men Who Stare at Goats and Horrible Bosses. The director is
Duncan Jones, known for being
David Bowie's son and for directing Source Code, the one with Jake Gyllensdgjnkjsdgtr
GOOD FACTORS! The story is VERY nice
and VERY original
It also makes it easy to feel empathy
because the loneliness of the main character is very well depicted.
SECOND!
The music
can't possibly be
THIS APPROPRIATE. The lunar landscapes mixed with the music make
every outdoors scene something we
want to see again. THIRD! I would personally expect
a movie in which such a reduced amount
of people work
to be slow or boring.
But Rockwell's performance is
so perfect
and the editing work made by the postproduction
team gives this movie a pace that is similar
or better than the pace of a movie in which
twice as many people work. BAD FACTORS: No, none, nothing, none, no.
Maybe the ending is a little vague, very similar to Happy Feet's ending (not kidding)
But that also helps us see the side of the movie we have to
pay attention to. I personally don't think this a bad factor, but it's something that
could be fixed, so I name it here anyway. The fact that the
man is a perfect clone
of Sam Bell in an unchanged cycle for years and years
is revealed
in such an unexpected and natural way
that makes us more worried about how they are going to survive together
rather than condemning the dishonest Corporation that put them in that
situation
in the first place. The movie is more interested in the human
and curious approach of
'What would you do if you were locked up with your clone?' instead of the
agressive and sometimes revolutionary side of things that Science Fiction has got us
used to.
It's refreshing.
Another interesting thing is the changes in the character's clothing.
As the movie develops and almost unnoticeably, the colors and the
patterns and the
shape of the clothing that was
picked for them says a lot about the story in a very silent way
That, IMHO, says a lot about the quality of the movie, and also adds
'replay value'. It's kinda hard to pay attention to every little detail in a movie
the first time you see it, so movies that have
enough detail to keep you interested on the
second or third watch as much as on the first one
are planned the way movies should be planned. The pizza I got forr Moon
has 8 slices
and I'm going to add it to my list of All Time Favorites because it is
one of the most harmonious movies I've ever seen.
