Let’s start with Internet explorer first.
Right click on shortcut icon in the taskbar. Select properties.
Go to the shortcut tab and in target delete everything after iexplore.exe”
make sure there is no blank space after the inverted commas.
I will repeat this procedure with the Mozilla firefox shortcut
and the google chrome shortcut located on my taskbar.
The next thing is to open Internet Explorer.
Go to tools -> manage addons go through the addon types
and remove everything related with the browser hijack.
Then again go to Tools -> Internet Options.
Copy the startup page and go to the registry again.
Use the search function to change the internet explorer settings.
While in Regedit, I will again use the F3 button which is equal to Find Next Match.
And the next one
and again
and again
until you sweep trough all the registry
Now, go again to Tools -> Internet Options
you will see that the homepage has already changed
this is because I changed it in the registry.
I will reset my browser settings by going to Tools –> Internet Options -> Advanced and then RESET.
You can delete your personal settings or not – it is up to you.
Then hit RESET.
For the changes to take effect, you will need to restart Internet Explorer.
Right, go ahead and do it.
Voila – no more Browser Hijack.
Next, is the Google Chrome Browser.
Just open it from the already cleaned shortcut.
Click on the top right button and go to settings.
Hmm, I see two pesky extensions not installed by me.
These are probably the extensions responsible for the annoying popups I am experiencing.
then I'll go to the settings
Here, you can try to modify the settings like setting your own page on startup,
change the show home button, change the search engine,
as you can see this parasite is quite widespread.
I’ll go ahead and quickly do it.
Or you can just delete this USER
this will reset everything by default.
Ok, that will be it
Let’s go ahead and restart the Google Chrome browser.
Perfect! No browser hijack, New Tab looks also Ok.
Let’s proceed with Mozilla Firefox.
Go ahead and open the browser.
Left click with the mouse on the orange button on the top left, go to help,
wait a little bit and then click on troubleshooting information.
And then again reset Firefox
this will delete all your stored passwords browsing history and so on.
Click on Finish.
Firefox successfully reset your profile.
Below is a list of windows and tabs you had open;
you can restore them or start with a clean slate.
Of course that we want to start from the beginning.
Let’s test it by closing it and then opening it back.
