Hi I'm Gerry with my dog Parker here to welcome you to Carlsbad's Coastal Rail Trail. I'm
a volunteer and I help maintain the Coastal Rail Trail by picking up the occasional litter
now and then, letting the folks know at the city when an irrigation system is down or
if there's a beehive on the trail. The Coastal Rail Trail is located in the heart
of Carlsbad Village running along the north south corridor. It's a trail system that connects
the coastal cities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Solana Beach. It's about 12
feet wide, it's paved and the part in Carlsbad is about 3/4 mile long but eventually it's
going to continue further south to connect all of the cities.
I like the fact that it's quiet, it's safe and I can come here early, early in the morning
to walk my dog. It's wonderful. It's free from traffic, you'll see parents walking their
kids here, taking bike rides, roller blading, skateboarding. You'll also find commuters
who go from one end of town to the other. They use the trail to get to work or to get
home. It's a really safe lovely place to be. It's a great trail - we enjoy it. It's a walking
and bicycling neighborhood and that's why we are here.
I love it - it's very private - it's flat. There's dog bags to pick up after your dogs.
You've got all the facilities here for dogs. There are basically a water fountains for
dogs, it's fenced in. All the dogs here are friendly, they're all on a lease, so I feel
safe here with my dog. The great thing about the trail system is
that it's really close to where people live so residents of Carlsbad like me are able
to just step out their door and right into a trail system.
So we hope to see you here again sometime at the Coastal Rail Trail in Carlsbad!
