Use Revu to check the spelling of any annotations, as well as the actual PDF in the session while
you’re working on the file. To get started, let’s open up the Preferences by pressing
Ctrl + K and seeing the options we have to work with. With this “Enable Spell Check”
checked on, as I’m adding annotations in real time, the spell checker will run and
underline any misspelled words. The “Color” chooses the color of the squiggly to place
underneath any recognized misspelled words. I can choose which dictionary to work with
by selecting the “Active Dictionary”, as well as other dictionaries may be imported
by pressing the “Import” button. Finally on this screen, I can add any custom words.
So as an example, let me go add “Bluebeam”. Now when I do this, the spell-checker is going
to assume that that’s a correctly spelled word and it won’t flag it as being misspelled.
With those things set now, let me go add a text box. And I’m going to… I’m intending
to spell “move these,” but I misspelled them and so the squiggly line appeared in
red underneath. Now, as I correct the spelling, the squiggly goes away because in real-time
Revu recognized that the words were spelled correctly.
Once a number of annotations have been placed in a PDF file, use the Spell Check button
to sequence through all of the annotations and indicate any misspelled words. As I do
this, the check spelling dialog appears indicating a word not found in the dictionary and any
suggested replacements in the bottom. Here I can change… as I step through each one
of these annotations and choose the appropriate word, or I can ignore any of these also. Once
complete, I can save the PDF file and those changes will take effect.
In this particular document, there are a number of words that are misspelled in the underlying
PDF content. Now using the Document/Markup Spelling Mistakes menu, I can go through and
add a markup for each individually misspelled word. I’m going to uncheck the “Place
Suggestions in Comment” for the moment. Now, once this is run, all of the words…
misspelled words appear with squigglies underneath them. And in the Markup List, I see one row
for each misspelled word. I’m going to run this again. I’ll delete
this – select all the comments and delete. And this time, when I run the Markup Spelling
Mistakes, I’m going to add… I’m going to check on the “Place Suggestions in Comment”
button, and now you’ll see for each one of those misspellings, there’s listed in
the comments field a suggested word to use to replace the misspelling.
This PDF has no annotations. However, in the underlying PDF there are some misspellings
in the actual content. When I switch into the Edit Text mode, any of those misspellings
will be underlined using the Spell Check technology built into Revu.
One other thing to note about using the Spell Check is, at any point as I’m working on
editing a text box or annotation, at any point if a misspelling is detected I can right click
my mouse on top of the misspelled word and Revu gives me a list of suggested words to
use as a replacement.
