I guys welcome to Haniela's, video tutorial you are about to watch
is part of inspired by you video series today I'm gonna be sharing
Mardi Gras Cookies, Olivia, the culinary student
emailed me and asked me for some inspiration
for Mardi Gras cookies, so I made three different designs and here they are
I don't have a cookie cutter so I
made a simple template, you can find a link to this template down below
in the description area
once your cookies are baked
using the same template mark the area for the eye cut outs, you don't want to put
any icing in those areas
using edible marker you can write or
draw on cookies
and then using 15 second royal icing
you can outline and flood
here again I'm using 15 second royal icing
if you don't have a needle tool you can also use a toothpick
as you notice I'm not piping all the way to the
pointy areas
which are sometimes really hard to reach so I'm using my
tool to push the icing in there
now are going to outline
the eye cut outs with black royal icing piping consistency
and then we'll dip it into sanding sugar or you can also sprinkle it with sanding sugar
I'm using black sanding sugar
now I'm just marking where my next
design is going to be. I'm making Fleur de Lis.Starting with piping consistency icing
and then filling in
15 second
now we are finishing the fleur de lis
piping consistency here and then 15 second
again, piping consistency for the swirls
ziz zac line
them
more dots
finish fleur de lis
starting with piping consistency to give it a
structure and then I'm gonna fill it
15 second and then you can
just move the icing around so it doesn't stick out anywhere
For the 2nd design this the design we are going to do
it has an intricate design around eyes
again I'm using edible marker to draw the design directly onto the cookie
using 15 second icing we are going to flood green areas first
ok
make sure that you avoid eye cut outs
you don't want to flood that
and gain flood with 15 second purple
outline the eye with piping consistency black royal icing
and dust it with black sanding sugar
here is the intricate pattern I was telling you about
It's very simple, if you are using piping tips
I think this would be number 1 or 0
piping tips size
repeat on the other side
using piping consistency green
and immediately follow with 15 second
you may wanna do this in sections
so your icing doesn't start to set
and it's easier to move around
here I'm doing a simple
border with piping consistency purple
make sure you don't go all the way to the edge because we'll be doing
dotted pattern
on both sides so you want to have some space on the outer edge
here I'm starting to do outer edge
3rd design!
for this design we are going to do brushed embroidery
I'm gonna show you in a minute
I'm using edible marked to draw my design
directly onto the cookie
make sure you don't go all the way to the edge so you can cover up your lines with icing
here I'm using medium stiff royal icing
I like to use small flat brush for brushed embroidery
you may wanna to this
in sections so you icing doesn't crust
if needed you can wipe your brush into a clean paper towel
repeat on the other side
here I'm using 15 second flood royal icing
remember not to
flood the eye cut outs
this is wet on wet
I'm using 15 second purple on 15 second green royal icing
and then I'm gonna do more dots around the eye cut outs
as you see I'm spacing them out, leaving a little gap between 2 dots
we are going to let these crust
then you can fill in the gap
with purple piping consistency
and that's how you make pretty Mardi Gras Cookies, I hope you find this tutorial useful
if you have other suggestions
you can email me and maybe I'll make something for you
next time, thanks for watching
and I'll see you next time
