On behalf of expertvillage.com, I'm Shelly here at AA Callister here at Salt Lake City,
Utah and I would like to show you what a turnout blanket is. Now a turnout blanket is one of
two types of winter horse blankets. One is a stable blanket that we will talk about a
little later and another one is a turnout blanket. Now a turnout blanket is for a horse
that is going to be turned out. They are going to be outside in the elements and usually
they are going to be water resistant or waterproof. Most of your turnout blankets are waterproofed
which means that water will not get through the top barrier of the blanket. Now turnout
blankets come in different sizes and styles and we will go through those a little bit
later, the styles that they come in but they cover the horse's body. Also one difference
between a turnout blanket and a stable blanket is that they usually have a tail cover or
tail flap back here to keep the wind out and the rain and snow out as well from underneath
the horse. So this is a turnout blanket. At least water resistant but most of your turnout
blankets are waterproof and they are also windproof and breathable. Another reason why
they call them a turnout blanket is because you usually turn your horse outside, they
run around, they get all excited, get kind of sweaty so most of your turnout blankets
are also breathable so that when you horse has gotten sweaty, he can also cool off so
that is what a turnout blanket is.
