I'm Bill Elzey with Showplace Lawns. Let's talk a little bit about pruning an evergreen
shrub. Any time you're running power equipment, as we will do here, we will use a power shrub
trimmer, you want to use safety glasses to protect your eyes, first and foremost. Second
of all, earmuffs or earplugs that will fit. Definitely want to use some sort of earplug
or earmuff to protect your hearing, safety glasses to protect your eyes. What we're going
to do, we want to take a little bit off the top. And then we want to come down the side,
and across the front, and down the other side. Now, when pruning a shrub, you want to make
sure that the bottom sticks out just a little more than the top does, the reason being,
that allows for sunlight to get to the bottom easier that if it was squared off and back
underneath. The other thing is as you go across, down the side, and across the front, when
you get a corner, you want to 45 the corners. Then you want to 45 the edge across the tops.
And that will give you that pruned look.
