FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA: I'm thrilled to have the chance to talk with you about an exciting program from the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
It's called I Can Do It, You Can Do It!, and it's going to create new opportunities for Americans of all ages and abilities to lead active, healthy lives.
We all know that when kids are active at a young age, that sets them up on course for a lifetime of healthy habits.
But too often people with disabilities, both children and adults,
simply don't have the opportunities they need to be active. As a result, people with disabilities are only half as active,
and the obesity rate for kids with disabilities is 38% higher.
That's why our revamped I Can Do It, You Can Do It! program is so important.
This program offers leaders like you the tools and resources you need to design new physical activity and nutrition programs for people with disabilities within your community.
Just go to FITNESS.gov to find everything you need to get started.
If you're teacher, whether you teach P.E. or Special Ed or Geography, sign up to serve as an Advocate in your school and start rallying support from your community.
if you're a community or faith leader, use this program to bring new activities into your organization or congregation.
If you're an administrator or college professor, spread the word about I Can Do it, You Can Do It! and support the educators in your schools who sign up for this program.
And finally, if you're a parent, you can also sign up to be an Advocate.
And you can be an Advocate at home by encouraging your kids to eat well and get active.
We all have a role to play here, and if we all step up and work together, then I am confident
that we can help Americans of all ages and abilities lead the active healthy lives they so richly deserve.
Thanks so much.
