I've had a number of people wondering why they are being bullied in the first place?
They can't understand why they are being bullied. This video is an answer to this important
question. I'm going to talk about what leads to bullying.
You might have heard me mention some of the different reasons before, but in this video
I am going to give you more information. it's going to be a little bit sciency if it's OK
with you. I'm Cyrus and I help people who are being
bullied to become confident in themselves so they can stand up against bullying.
The usual definition of bullying is this. Bullies hurt weak people because they're sick
or crazy . By this defintion bullying will stop with the separation of victim and the
bully or by the protection of the victim by bystanders.
But in my experience that's too limiting. There are 4 different behaviours that underlie
the cause of bullying. It's Rejection, Punishment, Xenophobia and
some sense of Inferiority by the Bully. We'll start with Rejection. This happen when
the bully is trying very hard to reject the victim.
It usually starts with hints, name calling, making fun and in severe cases, physical rejection.
Such rejection is what usually happens in the case of friends being the bully.
Fortunately there is a solution for this. Please watch my video that's devoted to Rejection
to discover why the bully is rejecting their victim.
For now, let's look at how Punishment is a form of bullying. Here the bully is punishing
the victim because they can't meet the demands and expectations of the bully.
Again, it usually starts with some hints, goes to verbal abuse and in rare cases escalates
to physical abuse.
Let's have an example, imagine a group of people go out to have fun or a teamwork and
one member of the group is not doing what he is supposed to do. he isn't participating
in the teamwork. he is letting the team down.
One by one the others start using different means to get the odd-one out to change his
mind. They use all sorts of negative stuff to try to influence him back to the group's
activities. This experience can be considered as bullying.
This type of bullying is common between humans and other primates like dogs, lions and chimpanzees
. I'll explain it in more depth in a video specifically about Punishment.
Another cause of bullying is Xenophobia. This Latin term means fear of something strange
or fear of the unknown. In this case, you're bullied because you are different.
I am not talking about the bad different. You can be especially smart, tall, short, overweight,
thin, or wear glasses. Perhaps a nerd or a loner or anything else. You are just different.
This fear is an evolutionary fear that is inside all of us. It's the basis of racism,
homophobia and other irrational, negative behaviors. If you want to know more, please
look at my video about Xenophobia. The last significant reason that people are
bullied arises from the bully's own Inferiorities. This is one has been talked about a lot. When
a bully has issues from his childhood, family, neighbourhood etc. he doesn't have compassion.
he doesn't have self esteem. so he is doing bad things to get the attention, get the love
and lots of other reasons. So that was it: 4 different cause for bullying
-- Rejection, Punishment, Xenophobia and the bully's Inferiority. I wanted to give it all
in one video but apparently we are just watching 4 minutes a video or less. So I am going to
make shorter videos and I will put them online. Please subscribe now and "like" this video
to get them when they come out. By the way you can always go to my website,
check the content, see the different solution that I have for bullying and write a comment
if you like.
