My name is Paul Miller and I have the privilege of running the town of morristown's office
of sustainability, under Mayor Dougherty.
Thankful to Marty and partners like Jamis that bring these
kinds of great programs to town to help young people
gain better cycling skills so that it can become a lifelong
transportation choice for them that contributes to their own
well-being, for the help of the planet.
It's wonderful to watch the big smiles on the little faces, they were biking with
the professionals and
posed for pictures with them and got signed autographed pictures of the
pro teams. The kids decorated their bicycles, they went through a training
course through the trans options organization, another one of our
collaborators. The food, of course, is always a big hit,
so after we trained the kids, they were more than happy to eat
some great donated food
from some of our other morristown partners here.
Tim: This is the beginning of another event that's going to continue to grow, which
is the fondo for kids, which is leading into tomorrow, the gran fondo, which is a huge
event, it brings people from all over, but we're excited to have this event here.
Marty, his company and his crew,
have done something special here in the second
annual gran fondo.
It's grown
double from what it was last year.
There's sixteen hundred, one thousand six hundred cyclists
starting at what time tomorrow? Marty: seven o'clock. Tim: I mean, that's
amazing, and i think that's the sign of what's going on here in morristown.
We have a community that's working together to bring all kinds of
events to morristown.
Not everybody is a cyclist, but
we offer everything here in morristown and these guys have done a great job creating this.
It's unbelievable. Marty: We are amazed that
second year we have gotten this many people, we were
named by Bicycling Magazine as the best competition in New Jersey,
which is pretty remarkable, We didn't know we were going to get that honor and so many people,
coming to town and coming to New Jersey to experience what we have to offer and
see how beautiful our town is and how beautiful this part of New Jersey is and i hope
they'll come back to new jersey
and go biking and know that there's great experiences and beautiful roads,
safe roads.
It's going to be a great day tomorrow.
We are offering 18 mile rides,
43 mile rides, 63 mile rides and the gran fondo, which is 110
miles, so we've tried to inspire people to do this Fondo and people have trained all
season to the end of the season to do these rides and
it's a great sense of
getting people to be more healthy and the well being is good, their attitudes good,
people are having a good time biking.
we think that is an important part of what we do, so,
we don't just sell bicycles, we sell a lifestyle.
Tim: It's people like Carine, from Jamis Bicycles, that
are critical for partnering with Marty to create these type of
events so we thank you for your participation in this and for supporting
Marty and bringing your team here and for those in the public, go support
Jamis Bicycles as much as we support Marty and his store. Marty: It's going to be a great day tomorrow and a lot of fun
and we certainly appreciate the town of morristown and how they have made us all feel
and hopefully everyone will
want to come back and
spend more time in town.
