>> SARAH: Hello St. Augustine. I am Sarah Owen Gledhill, I work for the Florida wildlife
Federation, I’m the director of the Northeast office down in Crescent Beach.
The Florida wildlife Federation is a nonprofit group that is about preserving and protecting
our natural environment, wildlife, plants, water.
I’m here today to speak to you about a couple of issues. We see today in the national light,
elections are going on. But guess what our elections are about to start here locally,
here at the state and here in St. John’s County. If I could ask you to do one thing
today, is to get to know the people running that are going to make the decisions for you.
Make sure you know who is beholden to the folks that are lining their pockets for their
campaign coffers. Make sure you know that the people that are running and that you vote
for are the ones that agree with you and have the same values and the same morals as you
do. I also want to talk about one issue that here locally that’s going to take place
on Tuesday. I have flyers for you, I had e-mail addresses for the St. Johns County commissioners.
I have 100 here, it looks like we have the perfect number, but it’s about passing a
resolution here in St. John’s County that talks about water resources in the state of
Florida. Right now Tallahassee wants to take away the decision of water resources and water
availability and centralize that from the regional level up to Tallahassee. They want
to take away funding for our water management District that prohibits acquisition of lands
that protects our water resources for water quality and water quantity. St. Johns County
is going to be a leader. They’re going to do going to hear a resolution. We want them
to adopt it to support funding for our water management District and protection of our
water. I’m going to hand these out, please take these, please e-mail them and support
this resolution. But again the Florida wildlife Federation, I’m here to talk to you afterwards.
We are all about wildlife as an indicator of our environmental quality. It’s about
wildlife resources, it’s about societal responsibility. We have a number of great
speakers for you today about environmental, social and indigenous issues, so please talk
to us afterwards and I thank you for coming out on this beautiful day.
