Today, we're making fitness fun, and what better way to make fitness fun than mixing
some stuff up, a mash-up.
So, we are going to mix up cardio and martial arts with Patricia Moreno. Welcome Patricia!
I am happy to be here.
So, I am so interested to hear what this is about. I love mash-ups whether it is music
or fitness. I am a little bit of a fitness Frankenstein myself. So, how are we mixing
up cardio and marital arts today?
Well, I wanted to show you first the punching things that we are going to do. So, I teach
people the on-guard position, and the first punching is just be alternating crafts crunches,
right? I call this exercise, STRONG. So, instead of calling it a punch, I say let's do strength.
And I give you the affirmation to say so you can call up your strength instead of complaining
and talking about what's not going right.
So, are you ready to do it? I am already here. Tell me what I need to say. You have to say,
"I-AM-STRONG-NOW." You say it. "I-AM-STRONG-NOW." Now, say it with feeling. "I-AM- ...GO FASTER
.. STRONG-NOW." Say it. "I-AM-STRONG-NOW." Good shake it off. You did it for a minute.
The thing is you are interrupting your old way of thinking, and instead of using your
words to describe your situation, I am tired, I am weak, I am strong. You are using your
words to transform situation. I agree, nothing creates emotion like motion. So, you can anchor
in the way you feel through these affirmations, and doing things that make you feel powerful.
AND literally re-wire the way you are thinking. I agree with you.
So, then I am going to the post called "intention." It's the exercise we use it like a jumping
rope. You know what's really important here? Like when you are boxing and you have this
wrist action. ... a double under... I like to have the people have the elbows in really
tight and really move the forearms. You can do the cross; you keep putting in anything
that makes you feel good.
Now, I am going to show you the next exercise that I call "inspired." Inspiring yourself
to stay in the game is really what makes it fun. So, you really feel you can do it. So,
guard up. So, we are doing upper-cuts....u-cuts and switch and switch and switch. So, we are
going to do slow two-three and now you are going to go as fast as you can... 1-2-3-4-5-6-7
slow 4-3-2 speed it up. Go fast, fast, fast, fast, fast, fast, slow, up, up. up, up, and
fast, fast and here we are now going to add the affirmation ..."I-AM-INSPIRED-NOW" Go
1-2-3-4-5-6.. I thought you were supposed to say the affirmation. You are. Let's do
it together. ..."I-AM-INSPIRED-NOW" 1-2-3-4-5-6.. say it again ..."I-AM-INSPIRED-NOW" 1-2...let's
do one more... one more. ..."I-AM-INSPIRED-NOW" go, go, go, go, go, go, go...
Now, you do a jump rope segment. Okay, so let's do a double. Let's get a little bit
fancier. Let's do a double. ... knees really high.. Remember the arms are still active.
What I love about adding the cardio section to this is that it is indoors. It like continues
for 20 minutes. We keep on smacking ropes here. I know.
You drop that and heart rate is up. You don't want your heart rate to drop. You go back
to the punch called champion... champions of hook.... Hook, switch, hook... so you go
hook, hook, hook, hook..." I am programmed for victory.." It's your turn.. " I am programmed
for victory.." and go " I am programmed for victory.." come on like you mean it.. This
is something useful when I fought in the ring.. I know, you should have had me there. " I am programmed for victory.."
"No obstacle can defeat me..." "No obstacle can defeat me..." "No obstacle can defeat
me..." "No obstacle can defeat me..." awesome, awesome, awesome..
But you can see how it energizes you. Yeah. Right? So, many people are in the exercise,
and they are like this will never work. I am so tired. Even a little bit, five minutes
changes and alters your mood. And then when you get to 20 minutes, it really moves you
into a different state of mind. We are working the whole body. The whole body. AND the mind.
AND the mind. And the mind is the first part, right? Once, your mind is in alignment with
the victory that you are standing for, right? The actions are inspired from there.
I am really a big advocate of going both ways to where sometimes you have the feeling and
it inspires what you do with your body, and sometimes it is the other way around. So,
I think it is possible to change your mental state by what you do with your physical ...oh
completely. That is a big part in mind when I am in a state where I don't feel inspired,
I got to move. I really got to get into actions so I can think more clearly.
Patricia we are on the same page.
