Number 7: Eli Strauss-Reis
Hello teachers and students.
My name is Eli Strauss-Reis and I am a third grade student at Potomac Chinese School.
Today I would like to tell you a story named "Arky."
I have an aunt.
Her house is like a zoo.
She has a dog, two cats, three little ducklings, and four horses.
She also has a very special parrot.
His name is Arky.
Do you know how long a parrot can live?
Ok, I'll tell you.
Parrots can live for up to seventy years. Arky is 24 years old.
Arky is very pretty.
He has a red and yellow body and a blue tail.
Arky is special because he can imitate complicated sounds and voices.
When he imitates people's voices,
he doesn't only imitate the words spoken,
but he also imitates the speaker's tone of voice.
So when my cousins were young children,
can you guess what Arky would say the most?
Arky would say, "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!"
Now, my cousins are adults,
so Arky doesn't say, "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" anymore.
Now, when Arky hears the doorbell ring,
he uses my aunt's voice to yell, "I'm coming!"
Arky also often uses my aunt's husband's deep voice to ask, "What's for dinner?"
Another thing that Arky can do is imitate the microwave's, "BEEP, BEEP, BEEP" sound.
My aunt has a dog. Her name is Lily.
So Arky also commomly says:
"Lily, no! No, Lily!"
I think that if Arky lived in our house,
his most said phrase would be:
"Where are my shoes? We're going to be late!"
Thank you. [applause/laughter]
