Hello there unboxers!
This is Sakis Karpas from GameOver.gr in another episode of Unboxholics!
Today we will take a look at LG Optimus G, LG's latest addition to its high-end smartphone series.
The back side of the retail package, which has the tech specs of the device written on it, is similar to previous phones of the LG Optimus Series.
First, let's take a look at the package contents.
Inside we find: 1. A Quick Guide
2. An AC Adapter
3. A USB Cable
4. A set of earphones which proved to be quite great in terms of design and performance
5. Replacements parts for the earphones and a sim card removal pin
LG Optimus G's design reminds us of Nexus 4 with some quite small changes such as the glossy plastic frame of Optimus G and a border made out of glass.
The back side of LG Optimus G has a glass surface with a blue cover that has several dots inside it which change color depending on the lighting.
On the front side we can see an LG logo along with three screen sensors, a speaker used for calls and a 1.3MP Camera.
On the bottom side of the screen we find three touch buttons that lit up when the phone is active.
A USB port and a microphone can be found on the bottom side
while the sim card slot and the volume slider button are on the left side of the phone.
A headphones jack along with an additional microphone are located on the top side while the on/off button is situated on the right side.
On the back side we find a 13.0 MP camera, a LED Flash, an LG Logo and the main speaker of the phone.
We are not happy at all with LG's decision to place the audio speaker on the back of the phone since most of the times the sound gets interpolated by the user's hand.
Let's take a look at the specs and dimensions of the phone!
Display: 4.7 inches
Height: 131.9mm
Width: 68.9mm
Thickness: 8.5mm
Weight: 145g
CPU: Quad - Core 1.5 GHZ Krait
RAM: 2GB
Storage: 32GB (25GB available)
Resolution: 1280 x 768 (318 PPI)
Battery: 2100 mAh
Optimus G supports all 2G/3G/4G networks.
LG Optimus G comes pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and can be upgraded to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
We were amazingly impressed by the feeling of the touch screen and its beautiful True HD IPS display.
LG Optimus G has one of the best touch interfaces we've ever seen. It's super responsive and the overall experience is flawless. No, we're not exaggerating.
The True HD IPS Display of LG Optimus G is simply an eye candy. Its excellent color balance, high levels of brightness and viewing angles makes this an enjoyable ride.
Multitasking is a feature that we've seen in other Android phones and is integrated in LG Optimus G as well.
Another useful feature of LG Optimus G is the fact that we can adjust the clock rate of the CPU in order to reserve battery when needed. This feature can be combined with Eco Mode which really helps in preserving your phone's battery.
LG Optimus G integrates the Quick Memo feature which is identical to Samsung Galaxy Note's II S Memo.
We've seen it before but never truly understand the true meaning of it.
The biggest disadvantage of LG Optimus G is that its temperature can reach high levels very easily.
The 13MP camera of LG Optimus G left us some mixed impressions since it can capture amazing photos but that does not apply to its video quality which fails to impress due to less vivid colors.
Auto-focus works great with photos but truly fails on video mode. See for yourself by looking at our samples...
LG Optimus G is available now with a price range of €400 to €600.
I personally own the Nexus 4 and I couldn't find serious disadvantages when I compared these two phones. Optimus G's amazing touch experience, True HD display and overall performance really make it shine.
Moreover, Optimus G has more storage and supports all 4G networks whick makes it stand out from Nexus 4.
