──How was the cage match?
It felt wider than the ring. But on the other side of the cage, the crowd was like always. I was still in the same old Saitama Super Arena, so it still felt like home.
──The “Standing Real Fist” looked difficult to pull off.
Well it seems like there is a bit more distance between me and the crowd than with a ring, but when I move back, I can see them and I feel connected to them.
──Your thoughts about your opponent?
His first punches came at me one, two three and they were so fast! I took several on the forehead. I realized that this is the punch of a Superheavy boxer. It surprised me much more than I thought it would.
──You choked your opponent instead of finishing with a leglock.
I knew he had studied my leglocks, so I went arm, mount and then choke. I changed from leglocks to other attacks part way through.
──Did you change your strategy after the fight started?
Yes. I wanted to fight with punches, I mean, I wanted to trade punches with a Superheavyweight boxer. Whether it was with kicks, punches, or tackling, he was really good at controlling the distance, much more than I thought he would be. I feel like I still have some training to do.
──Were you able to become a devil in the cage?
My opponent had the Japanese character for devil on his wrist, so I knew that's what I had to become. He thinks he's a devil, so I had to think back to my pro-wrestling roots and be like the “devil in a cage”. At the last moment, I became a devil!
──He had an “oni” (devil) tattoo?
Yes. It said “oni”. It touched my heart.
──You fought the first fight of the night again. Next time, too?
If the promoter says to fight in the first fight, the second fight, the middle fight, the end, whatever, I'll do what he says.
All fighters are the same, though. We want to be in the main event. Whatever ring, whatever sport, whatever fight, Minowaman is here to build dreams.
