From indie developers Bossbaddie comes the sequel to their game Big Sky, called Really
Big Sky. A twin stick shooter with awesome art direction, really fun gameplay and tons
of replay value with different modes, randomly generated levels and power ups.
Really Big Sky is a great tribute to vertical and twin stick shooters, but given a fresh
coat of modern day paint. If you like bullet hell, check this one out for sure. I’ve
not reviewed a ton of shumps, but it’s actually one of my favorite genres. I’m not the greatest
at them, but definitely love the simplicity, challenge, and fun they can offer. And this
game is not short on fun or challenge.
You’ve got your classic mode to start off with. Flying through waves of enemies, bullets,
gas fields and using a drill, crushing through planets and meteors. Killing enemies will
get you star points to use to upgrade your ship helping you get a little further and
a higher score each time you play. But it’s certainly not a grind either. Levels are random
like I mentioned and there are different events and boss battles keeping it interesting and
fresh each play.
You have couple control options on PC too. You can use the keyboard and mouse like I’m
using here, wasd to move and the mouse to aim. Or plug in a wired xbox controller for
authentic twin analog control.
Through the tutorial and various parts of the game is a quirky cockney narrator too.
I thought this was a nice added touch as most of the stuff he says isn’t so much helpful
as it is amusing. At one point while shooting dinosaur skulls he started singing the theme
to Jurassic Park... Lots of allusions and things like that make this game really awesome.
There are a bunch of modes to unlock too. Harder difficulties, a more old school arcade
mode, pacifism which is interesting all dodging, no shooting, and probably my favorite is Retro
mode, with retro style graphics and awesome retro music.
So check this game out on Steam and various download sites. Also PS3 and Vita owner keep
an eye out for Big Sky: Infinity to released on consoles later this year.
