Hi I'm Schell Michael, I'm here with Expert Village and today we're going to be doing
a series on how to surf. Now let's see, now we're moving in to titles, titles are always
fun. Hopefully you have a good title. You want to be a good title surfer. Let's go over
some of that, I guess you could say beginners names which aren't always the nicest but sometimes
you will just get frustrated and that's what comes out of their mouth. So one year a lot
is someone called a cook which is somebody who usually knows what their doing and pretty
much looks like an idiot out in the water and you get yelled at, "hey you cook". You
know, just like it's not very good. Another one's a barney which is pretty much the same
thing. You hear terms like grom or grommet and that's for usually like a little guy or
a little girl surfer, usually anybody under the age of twelve. It's just like, "yeah the
groms" and their usually pretty sweet surfers. So you hear that term a lot. A good surfer
you'll probably hear the term like, "ah he's such a ripper, he shreds, like he's super
good". And so anything like that they're going to give you props, they'll probably call you
"ripper", "shredder". You have the regular foot and the goofy foot. If you're not really
sure which one you are, you figure out quite quick once you stand up. Don't feel bad if
someone's like "hey are you goofy?" They're not making fun of you. They're asking you
if that's how you stand on the wave. And a goofy foot is somebody usually with their
right foot forward and regular foot is somebody with their left foot forward. There are very
many really, really, really talented goofy footers. I think back in the day was kind
of more, not really look down upon but you're luck you will be like, "oh they're goofy foot".
And its, nowadays, it really doesn't matter, it's just a term that was kinda carried on
back then till now. So it's not a bad thing if you're goofy, and it's not a bad thing
if you're regular. Just out there to have fun.
