Hi, I'm Sarah Price.
Today I'd like to show you how to customize the look of your Gmail inbox.
I'll be showing you how to change the spacing between your messages,
how to customize your left navigation,
choose whether you want words or icons on the toolbar buttons at the top,
and how to change the colors in the back of your Gmail account.
With a few easy steps you can take your Gmail inbox from here...
to here...
and everything in between.
First let's talk about display density. This is a setting that lets you choose
how much space you want between your messages. You can get lots of space,
a medium amount of space, or put your messages right next to each other.
The settings apply both to the inbox and also, for Compact mode, to your
conversation view.
Click the gear menu to open your Display Density settings and choose
Comfortable, Cozy or Compact.
you'll immediately see the change reflected in your inbox.
Now that you've set your display density where you want it, let's talk about your
left navigation.
When you hover over your left navigation label list, you'll see it
expand so you can see your labels. If you always want to see more labels, just click the
bar between chat and labels. You can drag it up and down to resize the chat
and label lists and get them exactly where you want them.
You can also completely turn off your chat list by clicking the chat icon
at the bottom.
You can turn it right back on by clicking it again.
Another tip is you can hide labels that you don't always need to see. Just click on the
menu to open the label options and click "Hide."
Your label will move automatically into the "More" menu,
getting it out of your main label list,
and you can easily access them just by clicking "More."
Next on the list is the toolbar buttons.
When you select message, your toolbar will appear.
You can just hover over each icon to see what the name of that icon is and
what that button does.
But let's say that you always want to see the words on the buttons.
Just click the gear to access your settings.
When you open up Settings, on the General tab,
you'll see a setting for your button labels where you can select "Text."
Be sure to scroll down and save your changes.
Once you've saved your changes,
you will see that you now have words on your buttons in your toolbar.
Right now, Gmail still is looking kind of white. Let's put in a little bit of color.
So click the gear
and choose "Themes" to see your theme options.
There are lots of options, so you can choose the theme that best suits you,
whether it's a solid color theme,
maybe a pretty picture of the ocean, or even our specially designed High Contrast
theme, which adds darker lines between the messages.
I hope you've enjoyed these tips for customizing the look of your Gmail inbox.
Thanks for watching.
