Welcome to an advanced Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate tutorial.
We will talk about charm tables in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate this time.
Former MH3/MHP3rd players should already be familiar with charms. Charms are additional equipment parts which offer skill points and slots.
The huge amount of different charms is split up to various categories - or rather tables.
Depending on which table you have settled into, you will partially receive different charms.
Back in MH3/MHP3rd, the table was changed every time you restarted the game and thus you could theoretically get all charms you wanted.
With Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate this has changed.
Now your character is permanently attached to a specific charm table right from his or her creation.
There are told to be around 14-17 charm tables in MH3U. The differences will especially come to light in the endgame phase.
Consequently you are only able to craft the best armor sets for your needs when you are on the right charm table.
Of course this is extremely annoying and I am not too sure what the heck Capcom was thinking when they implemented this.
By the way, this applies to both, the 3DS and Wii U version of the game.
The core target of this tutorial is to show you how to quickly determine which charm table your character is on.
I know you all are extremely excited for MH3U but to those of you planning to do "professional" gameplay video etc.:
think about if you want to invest 2-3h to get on a good table or take the risk of immediately starting out on a bad one.
Let's get this started finally. Create your character however you'd like him or her to look.
Carry on as you'd usually do: tutorial, villager requests and key quests until you obtain the first ship.
(Key quests up to this point: 3x special shroom, 5x Jaggia, 3x monster guts)
After you have completed all of that, you can talk to the fish lady in order to send out the hunting ships.
This is one of the keys to get to know your current charm table - as strange as it may sound.
(This is not my discovery, props to the Japanese geniuses who found this out!)
Now set up everything as you see it in the video: send the ship to the area of Moga coast...
...and if available, sacrifice a Fish Finder to improve the amount of reward items and thus the reliability of the charm table result.
(Fish Finder is available as hunting reward from Moga Forest. Hunt down some Altaroth, Giggi or fish to get them.)
I'd totally recommend farming for some Fish Finder as it will speed up the whole determination process.
After you have finished, send out the ship(s). It will take two virtual days until they return.
In order to quickly skip those two days I'd recommend doing the Kelbi Horn delivery quest twice.
(On a side note, this is also useful to speed up Moga Forest events or quickly swap the peddlers items at Tanjia harbor.)
All you need to quickly finish the quest is two Kelbi Horns.
You can simply get them from your item box if available or farm them when on quest.
Simply start the quest, deliver the items and you're done.
Now, what makes this interesting is that you'll receive two more Kelbi Horns as fixed quest reward.
Put them directly into your item pouch, save if you want and restart.
You can simply finish the quest within 5 seconds as long as you got those two Kelbi Horns on hand.
As mentioned earlier, it is enough for our needs to do this twice as the delivery time for the ship are two days.
Talk to the fish lady again. Here comes the fiddling part of this tutorial.
You now have to CAREFULLY note the pattern of the reward. This means:
Which item is present in which slot of the load and how many of them? (see upcoming example)
Input the results to the tool with the link you can find down below in the video description.
Really take your time when doing this as it will be even more annoying to redo the whole procedure.
Then rinse and repeat as often as you'd like. (Moga Coast, Fish Finder, day skipping...)
There are 9 slots available on the website so you might want to do this 9 times for best results.
This might take a while (probably around 30mins if you're into it).
Here you can see the finished result of one of my testing characters. Use "Send" when finished.
You will be sent to the Japanese version of the site which will also provide the results.
This table is kinda self-explaining. T = charm table, O = your pattern is possible for this table, X = pattern is not possible for this table.
As you can see, the author thinks there are 17 different tables. Again, the exact number is unknown.
The result in my case is pretty obvious: there isn't even the slightest chance of my character being on any other table than 5.
I tested and verified this procedure with two more characters.
My main char is on table 6, my test char on table 10 - probably the best table of all.
This builds a perfect bridge to the last topic of this guide: the tables themself.
Table 10 is probably the best all-rounder table you can imagine. Best example: a charm boosting Awaken+7 and Artisan+5.
If you want to head for the best end-gear stuff you definitely want to go for table 10.
Table 6 is also pretty nice and provides charms like Artisan+5 & two slots or Artisan+4 & 3 slots without negative points.
Maybe you also want to main one specific weapon class.
Go for table 4 or 6 if you're going to main GS, for table 4 or 10 when lancing or gunlancing and for table 10 if you'll main DS or hammer.
Use table 14 if you are a switch axe user.
