This is Katie, Katie is in her early 40s and her main worries were the fact that she is showing the early signs of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines and is starting to see crepiness on the neck and the décolletage too.
PRP is known as the Vampire Facelift, but it actually stands for Platelet Rich Plasma.
Essentially we take blood from the patient, spin it, which will push the red blood cells down to the bottom of the test tube, leaving us with the Platelet Rich Plasma.
It’s the Platelet Rich Plasma that interests us because it’s full of platelets that are great for healing and it’s got some growth factors and also so stem cells.
By reinjecting this into the patient we can start to cause a regeneration of the skin.
I particularly like the fact that because you are using your own blood and plasma that you are unlikely to have any allergic reactions or side effects from it, so I like the natural aspect.
PRP is fantastic for fine lines and crepiness because it’s a rejuvenation of the skin we are after.
When we inject PRP, we use really fine needles to try and minimise damage to the epidermal layer and also try and increase patients comfort.
You can go slightly deeper into the neck and chest area but when we come to doing PRP round the eyes, we have to be extremely cautious because we can cause bruising around this area.
Immediately after treatment I had some mild redness but it wasn’t especially noticeable. Nothing that couldn’t be covered by makeup.
PRP actually will recover very quickly, you can get a little bit of bruising but because we are using platelets which are known for their healing factors there is not a massive amount of downtime and even round the eyes we can get away with just a couple of days.
The next day I went to a business meeting and there was no real trace or evidence of any treatment at all, apart from a few pin pricks around the neck line.
Earliest signs of improvement after PRP will tend to happen after about 2 weeks.
We would recommend at course of 3 PRP treatments every 4 weeks apart.
Overall I was really pleased with the results I got. I felt very safe in Doctor Natalie’s hands and I would defiantly go back again.
