Am I a candidate for Invisalign? Dr. Ernest McDowell. A common misconception that that
we hear all the time from patients when they come in for a consultation and sometimes a
second opinion is they've heard that their case cannot be treated with Invisalign. Invisalign
works the same as braces, it applies a force. There are some things that Invisalign does
better than braces because it contacts the teeth in an infinite number of places. There
are some things that braces do better than Invisalign because the wire can get twisted
in to certain areas that are hard to get at to get at by plastic.
In any event any case can be treated with Invisalign if you're willing to to add a small
amount of braces in the end or in the beginning or in the middle. The end result being you
can still get as good a result as if you had worn the braces for the entire period of time
for two to two and a half years or eighteen months or whatever the total treatment is,
it might mean wearing braces just for three months. But we are finding more and more patients
are excited about getting a nice beautiful result and they're happy if they only have
to wear braces for three months and Invisalign can do the rest. And that's why more more
patients are starting with Invisalign than ever because they still want to have as nice
a result as braces and that's what we're able to give them.
