Hi, my name is Becky McKinnell. I am creative director and founder of iBec Creative. We're
a web design and online marketing company in Portland, Maine, and we help a lot of companies
out, in addition to their websites, with Facebook strategies. So I'm here today with Ashlee
Doherty, who is our Interactive Coordinator, and Ashlee, tell me what you think that businesses
usually don't know about FaceBook that they should know.
I think that the most important thing that businesses should know about Facebook is that
they can essentially turn Facebook into a mini website. So you can have what would be
your home page, for Facebook, which would be imagery and branding you have already created
for your website, just in a more condensed version. You can also add different tabs,
or pages, to Facebook to show things like your product line, services, tips, and even
promotions that you might want to offer your customers.
Cool! Can you show us some examples?
Sure! So Sephora is a great example of a company that has really used Facebook to express their
brand. They have a welcome page that promotes their visitors to like them and to become
a part of their online community, and they also, underneath their profile picture, have
other tabs that describe different aspects to their business and allow Facebook fans
to really interact with their company.
Great! So now that it's coming across the holiday season in the next couple of months,
what do you think businesses should know about promoting their business for the holidays?
So, another great thing about Facebook, and about having that welcome page, is you can
kind of turn it into a promotional queue, so you can incite people to come to your website
for the holidays, feature a product that you might want to be selling for the season, and
you can give them a promotion, such as free shipping, if they like you on Facebook. This
will not only drive people to your Facebook page, but also to your website, and hopefully
to the rest of your product line.
Great! Can you think of an example of a business that does that now?
Sure. Williams-Sonoma is an example of a Facebook page that uses the reveal tab. So, they'll
kind of dull-out the background, and they have a really "pop-ey" visual queue to "Like
Us." Their specific promotion is to become a fan to win a prize. But, I think over the
holidays, something like free shipping or product price incentive would be a great promotion
for the holidays.
Awesome. Thank you for your tips, Ashlee. If you have more questions, feel free to visit
our website or give us a call. Thanks!
