Hi
our society is a jungle,
where the strongest eats the weakest
like if 2000 years of Christianity
have been useless.
Is it possible that the only way
is the dominance of one over the other?
Always thinking on the values
and the virtues which are necessary to live,
I believe that
it is worth to remember
how our survival,
the relational,
but especially the social and the working,
is based on some dominant values
like for example the opportunism,
the opportunism is not itself a bad word,
it just means that we have to
catch the opportunities,
or the cynicism,
which is a sort of shamelessness,
to be shameless
to reach somehow a goal,
especially an innovative goal.
Or the capacity
to be predators,
social predators,
also because social Darwinism,
somehow, the selection
which we are all subjected
has become today very imposing.
It is imposing, we understand it well,
by changing the ages,
the cycles of life,
making it narrower,
so if somebody quits
the world of work
at a certain age which until yesterday
was considered an age full of maturity,
today he runs the risk
to become easily unemployed.
Well, said all that,
I get this beautiful image
which we use today to say,
it is a little bit a metaphor,
I wouldn't like to transform it
into something too scientific,
which is to say that if we are the sons
of the himpanzees or the bonobos.
So we know very well
that the chimpanzee is an animals
who has a predatory instinct,
an instinct of dominion,
an aggressive instinct,
so, that uses his aggressiveness to dominate,
to conquer, to somehow
determine his power,
which is the sort of will of power
in the chimpanzee, which is manifested.
So, evidently somebody could say that
it's true that we,
the man, the Western man,
and the men of this time that,
the performance is at
the heart of every
how to say, realization,
that we have to somehow breakthrough,
that the dimension of the chimpanzee
is the dominant one,
is the necessary one.
But there is another version.
And if it would be possible
to be the sons of the bonobos?
The bonobos are a kind of
smaller chimpanzee,
a smaller monkey, as ethologists teach us,
they taught us, it has particular characteristics,
that when it is faced with a conflict,
it does not solve it through the force,
through dominance,
but through lovely gestures,
even *** gestures,
gestures that it transforms
the aggressivness that conflict brings,
in a lovely attitude
friendly, of caressing relationship,
of tenderness.
So, evidently beyond, how to say,
of the ethological data,
beyond the ethological data,
I think how it would be interesting
to imagine a society which can
at least partly,
regain something of the culture
of the bonobos,
so to give and to put at the heart
of its reasoning,
the reasoning about its virtues,
and its values,
maybe without erasing the fact
that we are the men of conflict,
we are men who somehow
live in the air of Polemos,
but regain something,
and we have a great need,
of what we call the area of tenderness,
the area of caress,
the area of gift,
the area of generosity,
the area of generous reciprocity,
the area of friendship.
