A question we routinely get in our office is, "Do I have a criminal record?" "Is my
criminal record that I've got in D.C. expungeable?" "How can I get a copy of my arrest record
to see if it's expungeable?" So, in this video we're going to be discussing ways to see if
you can pull your arrest record, how to go about pulling your arrest record to see if
it's expungeable, simply meaning, "sealed or hidden from public view."
There are two ways to go about doing this. The first way to go about doing this is to
simply go onto the court's website to see if you have a record on that. You simply go
on the websites listed right here. You're going to click on that and you can go and
type in your last name to see if your name is on there. The other way, which we recommend
going this route, is going to Metropolitan D.C. headquarters at 300 Indiana Avenue, Room
1075. Now, it costs seven bucks to get your arrest record, but you simply go down to that
location, location's on the screen right now, Room 1075. What you'll need when you go down
there is you'll need your driver's license. If you don't have a driver's license, your
non-driver ID. If you don't have that, you can use your birth certificate and/or social
security card. Things to remember when you go down there:
You must be eighteen years of age to retrieve a police. You can only get the information
about yourself, you cannot go down there to pull information about someone else. You're
going to read over that information before you leave that desk, before you leave that
counter and note the name of the clerk that served you, that's very important. Why would
you want these things? So when you come to the attorney's office, you can simply say,
"Here's my records. Can you tell me whether these are expungeable?" The attorney will
go over the records with you and tell you whether you're, in fact, expungeable under
current D.C. Law. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching. I
hope you stay tuned to our station. You can always contact us. The number is on the screen:
