>> The Verizon Foundation
uses technology to address the world biggest challenges,
and addressing the health care needs
of women is one of those challenges.
>> There are definitely disparities between women
and men in health and health care treatment.
>> I've seen firsthand the effects
that the lack of access to care,
and a lack of quality care has had on the women in my life.
I watched my grandmother die
from fully preventable, treatable diseases.
I watched my mother struggle with being able
to find the time to access healthcare.
>> You empower people when you give them information
that they can use to take care of themselves.
>> The goal of the projects that we are starting
out with Verizon Foundation, all have to do with healthcare,
with empowering women,
with the connection between the provider and the patient.
>> What we are trying to do with Verizon is work
with universities who have
designed trials to really see what does work
and what helps the patient.
>> Technology is a way to reach people that they don't have
to be seen in the office.
It's a way that people can engage themselves
in improving their health.
>> What we are hoping to figure
out from this is how technology compares
to say just regular paper.
It really allows us to empower women
and to understand how they learn
and how they use these technologies
to take care of themselves
and ultimately take care of their families.
>> It's incredible to imagine the impact that a combination
of technology accelerated healthcare programs
and community integrated care
can have on women's health.
Through the Verizon Foundation's programs
and Verizon's technology networks
we are able to accelerate the rate
at which technology reaches those who need it most,
and help underserved communities better access
quality healthcare.
>> IT and technology and mobile health are making
amazing inroads.
It will be transformative.
