HOST: Visitors may not expect picturesque landscapes when they come to Texas,
but the Hill Country defies all stereotypes.
HENRI DELOBBE: Between Johnson City and Fredericksburg,
you have now eight different
wineries that you can experience.
HOST: Visit Becker Vineyards in Fredericksburg.
This forty-six-acre vineyard was planted on the site of native mustang graves
that were prized by the region's German ancestors.
HENRI DELOBBE: The stretch of highway between Johnson City and Fredericksburg
is going to be one of the main
wine-tasting destinations in Texas.
HOST: The wine cellar is one the biggest in Texas, holding sixty-four thousand gallons.
You can try a few varieties here, in the tasting room.
ABBEY: Our street signs, they get stolen quite frequently.
So part of the allure of coming to Luckenbach is getting lost on your way here.
And then once you're here, getting lost in Luckenbach.
And that's what happened to me. I got lost in Luckenbach,
and I really don't want to find myself too bad (LAUGHING).
HOST: Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings have played here at Luckenbach Dance Hall,
one of the oldest dance halls in Texas.
Some might call it the social center of Luckenbach.
HOST: Another place to socialize?
The back of the general store, which opened in 1849.
It's a casual gathering spot for locals who like to get together and strum their guitars.
HOST: Now that we've been back in time, let's go underground.
You can find something truly unexpected in Burnet
and it's right beneath your feet.
This is Longhorn Cavern.
Rumor has it that a notorious Texas outlaw
named Sam Bass hid two million dollars inside ...
... money that's never been found.
HOST: If you prefer a dark ale to a dark cave,
stop by the oldest brewpub in Texas.
This restored eighteen-nineties building houses the Fredericksburg Brewing Company.
RICK GREEN: I am the luckiest man in the world.
(LAUGHING) At least, the luckiest man in Texas.
HOST: Loyal customers come in here to enjoy national and international award winning beers
that are made in these bright copper tanks called the brewhouse.
RICK GREEN: I always like it the best when Europeans,
particularly Germans, come in and compliment me on the beer.
And tell me that it's authentic German-style.
HOST: Well, this biergarten marks my last stop.
Whether it's your last stop, your first stop or somewhere in between,
just make sure and stop by and see us in Texas.
It's like a whole other country.
HENRI DELOBBE: I've been here thirty-four years.
People ask me, "Do you miss your country?"
This is my country now.
RICK GREEN: Come on down to the Hill Country
and have a cold beer with us.
