Well, alongside the PhD I've been working freelance in Health and Social
Care. I've been doing that for the past few years, doing bits and pieces of project management.
I've done some for the department of health, some for local governments and some for the
voluntary sector.
I'm now trying to keep fitting some small parts of that work in
whilst doing the PhD. Already I've seen the benefits of the PhD training
and how that's really helped me with the freelance work.
I did a regional piece of work, recently, which I had to write up and I'd
learnt how to write up a research project so I wrote up the piece of work as I would
a research project.
I've also done a piece of work helping the voluntary sector organisation review their
services and part of that was running a survey
looking at service user needs. So, I applied the research
skills I'd learnt on the research design course to being able to
run that survey, analyse that data and then present it to the organisation as a
report. So, it's already giving me an edge over other freelance workers
in Health and Social Care in that
I can bring something extra now, I can bring those research skills into
project management.
