Every Research Week the OSU Library hosts Celebrating Books by OSU Authors. Our goal is to recognize the accomplishments
of faculty, staff and students who have published a book in the last two years.
This year we have 53 authors, which is the most we've ever had. One of the things that's most interesting about this event
is the diversity of the work coming out of OSU. We have everything from textbooks in chemistry and mathematics to novels
to poetry, coffee table books. It really runs the gamut.
This book, Introduction to Emergency Management, is an overview of many of the key points in the field of emergency management.
It is written for the future emergency manager. Those who'll work in emergency operations centers, the Red Cross, FEMA,
work in the private sector. In fact one of the areas that we've highlighted is the private sector because there's all kinds
of jobs in business about how do you plan and respond for disasters because if you're not ready for a disaster in business
you're going to go out of business.
I think if really provides a little push of encouragement for us to continue doing these things. So to get some recognition
and encouragement, that's worth a lot. So events like this are really nice to have to show that the university really
appreciates what we're doing.
