[Kawaun] Welcome to our Aggie Abode here in Ryerson Hall room number 309.
[Satyen] My name is Satyen and this is my roommate...[Kawaun] Kawaun, nice to meet you guys.
[Satyen] And today we are going to show you around our double style room. [Kawaun] All right, well let's get started.
[Satyen] This is my room and since it's a double I share
it with one other person...[Kawaun] That'll be me!
[Satyen] And in this room we have a bed, a bed frame, mattress, desk, lamp, a dresser,
everything you'll need to live.
[Kawaun] This is my bed. It comes in three different heights. You have bunk, lofted and
standard. As you can see this is kinda standard right here. Our first first height we have
is lofted and what lofted means is you can basically put your desk under your bed, pretty
awesome! And our second one is our bunk, which means even though I have regular size bed
like this, if me and my roommate wanted to we could put our beds together and make bunk
beds you know...more space for activities. And then the third one would have to be standard
which is just regular like this, just livin', chillin' and [mumbles]. So these here are
our desks. As you can see we have enough space here to fit two monitors, one we use to totally
for TV and entertainment the other one we can use just for homework and maybe looking
up stuff for our econ classes. Who knows? But, as you can see also you can fit speakers,
and I know we can definitely fit about a printer, a laptop and maybe another computer here.
As you can see this here is our bookshelf and then when it comes to our bookshelf, personally
with me I like to stack my books from biggest to shortest. So you see I have my archeology
book, my dinosaurs book all the way up to my immigration and nativism in America book.
And as you can see it detaches if you need to move it under your desk for more space.
Let's say you don't want it there you want it under your desk, which is a lot better
area. A neat thing about these desk are we have two extensions. One you can see right
here, you can just pull out [unintelligible - pulls out desk leaf and mimics writing].
Which provides you with enough space to get everything done just in case your desk is
too, uhh, get a little too messy or too crowded, but we also have another extension in the
back, which you can't see right now, sorry about that, but there is a very nice extension
also good for extending out the desk for more area to do work.
[Satyen] So personally we have a lot of people in this room, like, all the time. So when
ever we want a quite environment we can go to the Service Center which is actually right
there [motions the right], right outside our building and [Kawaun] Right next to the Junction!
[Satyen] It provides you a quite environment to study and get your your work done when
you really need to. So you can have fun in your room.
[Satyen] So this is my closet and since we live in a double my roommate has the exact
same thing on his side. [Kawaun] WOW! So much space in there!
[Satyen] As you can see there's a little area for your clothes, you can hang anything that
needs to be hung. You've go drawers for all your smaller clothes and this little cubbie
area on the side where I keep my my shampoo and toothbrush and my and some of my pants
and my dishes. And the top I have a little area for sports equipment and the bottom I
usually keep my shoes over there. So yea, it's pretty cool. My roommate, like a said
it's the same thing on his side. Since it's a double most of the things are the same.
And I really like this arrangement, [the closet] is built into the wall so it doesn't get in
the way.
[Satyen] In the dorms they don't provide a refrigerator or microwave, but you are free
to bring your own or rent them from Student Housing. I brought my own because my uncle
gave it to me. So this is my refrigerator. I have a few snacks in there, a few drinks,
some jelly. And, uh...This is my blender which I bought. I use it to make what ever I need.
It's a good thing to have during finals week; so if you don't have time to eat or don't
have time to go to the DC you just keep food in your fridge and take it out of there whenever
you want. And at the end of every floor there is a community kitchen where they have a stove
and refrigerator which you can keep extra things over there if you need too.
[Satyen] In a traditional dorm environment, such as this one all the guys on the floor
share one bathroom which is right outside our room and all the girls on the floor share
another bathroom which is down there [motions to the left]. The bathrooms are pretty nice.
It's not hard to share, it's not really dirty because they get clean every day. [Kawaun]
They clean it everyday at twelve or twelve-thirty. [Satyen] Around that time yea. [Kawaun] It
will be getting cleaned. Nothin' to worry about. [Satyen] Yea. And there's cubbies in
the bathroom so you can keep your soap and your toiletries and other stuff in there.
[Kawaun] So welcome to the common area. I mean this is the area most common for hanging
out and being with your friends. When you want to be more social; when you are tired
of being confined to your room; just don't want to be [in your room] any more, so you
just come to the common area. And as you can see there's people that come here to study,
when it's about midterms season, finals season. [The common room] is a good place to come
when your room's a little too hectic, another one of those places.
[Satyen] Also, if you really need help studying you can go to the Student Academic Success Center which right outside like I mentioned and they help you with what ever you need;
help you pick your classes for a new quarter; they help you study for your midterms and
also during midterms and finals seasons we have extended quite hours where you can only
really be loud 2-3 hours a day. [Kawaun] We know A LOT about quite hours! [Satyen] Extended
quite hours are a good thing, because it really helps you focus and for once your dorm building
is not really noisy so you can get your work done. So also a good way to meet new people
to leave your door open. During welcome week we left our door open the whole time [Kawaun]
Every day! [Satyen] We basically met our whole floor; it was a great experience - I love
welcome week, I wish every week was welcome week, but it can't be that way, you'd never get anything done.
[Satyen] Thank for joining me on the tour of Ryerson. If you have any more questions
you can check out the Facebook Housing page or the Student Housing website. Bye!
