My favorite teacher was Jan Davis who was a fifth grade
teacher at Isely alternative school.
My favorite teacher was Linda Douglas when I was over at
North High School.
I would have to say if I had to pick a few Mr Faflick;
Mrs. Brown, who became Ms. Hart...
Randy Sawyer, my high school art teacher and football coach,
was probably my favorite and probably had the biggest influence on me.
My favorite teacher was Mr. Snocker.
He was a math teacher.
Mrs. Moutray, Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Gamble...
My most most favorite was in high school and it was my math teacher,
meaning Algebra II and trigonometry and calc teacher.
His name was Harley Turner.
Linda was my English teacher and she just took a special interest
in me and really made me step up to the plate.
He's the person who encouraged me to actually take the ACT and
think about going to college.
Se encouraged me, she inspired me,
and she challenged me to grow not only personally but
also intellectually.
I had jipped her class so that I could study for another class and
she called my mom, but because of that incident Miss Douglas took a
special interest in me, and so then when I had her speech class
I gave a speech on “10 Ways to Jip Class and Not Get Caught,”
so we just had some fun.
He taught me math, in a good way.
I mean I learned it and he made it fun.
I liked math anyway, but he really made it fun and interesting.
She would challenge me to do more than I possibly could,
and so she motivated me and encouraged me to be the person
I am today.
He just did a great job building relationships,
was unique in how he did things in the classroom,
whether he allowed us to do partner tests and allowed us to
work together a little bit more than some of the other teachers.
You didn't want to miss his class, and he helped you
when you struggled and even as a basketball coach he always helped you when
you struggled and just made sure you had everything right.
They saw something in me that I didn't see in myself and allowed
me to explore and just think higher and dream bigger.
As I became a teacher I got to go to...
I had the opportunity to be in professional learning with her there,
and of course she had to tell my story to all the teachers in the room.
So she just took a special interest and it made a difference at that time.
He and I are still very close to this day.
We do a charity golf tournament together and so he's still a coach
and a mentor to me even to this day.
I became an educator because of Jan Davis.
We're still in contact today.
She's my mother and I love her dearly.
So I don't know if she'll see this,
but Jan, I love you and she knows that,
but she really really knew how to connect with kids and get the most
out of a kid even when a kid didn't believe in themselves.
