>> (REPORTER): RIT men's hockey team have been giant killers in the first round of the
NCAA Hockey regionals. The Tigers 2-0 heading into Saturday's regional semifinal in Albany.
Wayne Wilson and the Tigers taking on Quinnipiac in the first round of the NCAA Hockey Tournament.
RIT creating some chances early on, Eric Brown on the breakaway but Michael Garteig stones
him. The Bobcats on the power play later in the first, Travis St. Denis on the one-timer
for a 1-0 Quinnipiac lead. 2nd period now, Greece native Mike Rotolo standing tall in
the nets for the Tigers, the save on the breakaway. Still 1-0 to the third when Tim Clifton whips
the puck in front for Scott Davidson and a 2-0 bobcats lead. Then Connor Clifton blazing
up the ice, the no-look backhand pass for Soren Jonzzon. RIT’s season comes to a close
with the 4-0 first round loss. So RIT can't repeat their feat from a year ago. We head
back out to Albany where Kevin Carroll has reaction from the Tigers.
>> (REPORTER 2): Once again the Tigers gave one the top teams in the country a run for
their money. This time it wasn't enough. The Tigers had their chances, but were unable
to finish making for a quick exit from the NCAA tournament this time around.
>> (KUQALI): We generated a lot of chances. Our transition was good. We had a couple of
close calls. I remember that one right on the goal line. A couple of really nice shots.
The goal tender just came up with a couple of really big saves, so it was kind of deflating.
But the guys never lost hope
>> (MILLER): We were just trying to get pucks low and work their D. We know they had a couple
of good ones. They had a couple D that were slow moving side to side. So we wanted to
get down there and work it. Takes pucks to the net. And we thought Powell had that one
at the start of the third and we had other numerous chances, but they just weren’t
going in.
>> (WILSON): The difference really was the fact that we didn’t score. The more excitement,
not only from our bench, but also from our fans. Not a whole lot of regrets about how
we played. Just disappointed that we didn’t get a timely goal when we needed it most to
get our guys back into it.
>> (REPORTER 2): With the loss the Tigers now 3-3 in NCAA tournament games. Still very
impressive for team coming out of the Atlantic Hockey Conference. At the times union center
in Albany. Kevin Carroll, Time Warner Cable News Sports.
