This is actually a classic atheist argument.
Catastrophe, bad things, we should understand to
the two points of view. First of all from a psychological
point of view. Most people ask the question if God exist how come
bad things happen. Most of the time the origin of that is something bad
had happened to you personally and you are upset about it
and you need somebody to blame and what ends up happening is you can't say that
something bad happened to me, how come it happened to me? So you
say how come earthquakes happen, how come famine happen?
in other parts of the world. Most of the people that ask this question
not judging everyone but quite a few could care less what happens to the world
but they are extremely self indulged. Okay
and that's where this question arises from. That's one of the psychological origins
Any how coming at it from a philosophic point of view,
The question of "If God exist how come bad things happen"
is a very straight forward concept. First of all what was the basis of our relationship with Allah?
What was the basis of our relationship? Master and Slave.
Okay now we know in that relationship who has all the rights?
Who has all the rights? The Master does.
The Master has all the rights, the slaves have no rights.
Zero, zero rights. Now the fact that the Master gave
Gave me two hands, a functioning tongue with which I am speaking to you right now
clothes on my back, none of these things are things that I
technically earn. I did not earn my hands in the belly of my mother
I did not have a credit card by which I process my payment on my
equally sized fingers on either hands. I didn't pay for them.
These are gifts from the Master. Agreed.
So these are gifts from the Master that I did not pay for and
these are so expensive to me that if somebody came me and said that I
am going to buy you a house, just give me your right arm.
Or I will give you
I am going to give you a couple of millions of dollars. Just give me your legs.
Just chop it off. You wouldn't because
its that valuable to you. The wealth of the world
than your nose, than your eyes
You wouldn't give them up than anything
And so he gave these and we didn't earn them and so if he didn't
give them, didn't give them, I can't complain why not?
Even if he didn't give them to me I have no right to
complain. Why is that? Because its His choice. He is the
Master. He's not my boss where I can say "Hey I put in my work, where's my paycheck"
That's not this relationship.
People who ask that question haven't understood that relationship.
They haven't understood who Allah is. He is the Master. So now
I will give the correct attitude to this question. Every single
calamity Allah sends on this earth Allah talks about it and
recites Quran verses
Corruption can on the, manifested in the oceans,
and in the lands because of what people earned with their own hands
People ask why is there cancer? Well, why is there over-production of
of plastic products? Well who does that? People ask
why is there sexually transmitted diseases. And we ask well how come there is so much
promiscuity. People ask well how come there's so much ***
or famine? Why is there famine or droughts in parts of the world?
And we ask how come there are countries in the world including our own
that has enough produce, farm produce
in excess here, that is burned every year that can feed
the entire planet over. So before you ask why is there famine
and question God, God gave every single ability we have
in our disposal to deal with the problems that face us.
We bring about those problems ourselves. God says
"I only place those problems so you can get some taste of the evil that you are doing"
Some taste of it. When do you get the full taste of it? Judgment Day.
Right now whatever catastrophe happens is a small taste of it
and even these catastrophe we don't call them punishment in Islam
We do not call them punishments, we called them test
and the purpose of a test is to give you a grade and after you
get the grade you pass or fail. This world is not about passing or failing
This world is about being tested. The next world is about
success and failing. That's what the next world's about
So the response to that question it lies in our understanding of who the Master is
First and furthermost. (Brother Murphy) Details about
different relationships but
just to kinda break it down and make it easy for everyone
I went over this once before but in Surah Al Fatihah Allah begins by saying
recites Surah Al Fatihah
He elaborates that he is the most merciful
and compassionate. And they He says
All praise be to Allah, Lord of everything, the Lord of the Worlds. And then he says again
the second time after three verses, Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim (Most Merciful Most Compassionate)
He is uhh emphasizing or elaborating
that He is the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
He is the nicest existence that ever exist.
Allah SWT is the most Merciful thing that ever existed. Correct?
So the question that has to be asked is so why then
if Allah is so merciful, so compassionate
why do bad things happen? And the next verse answers that question
Allah says "Because this life is not supposed to be the end of all..."
fairness and unfairness. This life is not supposed
to be the end of everything. There are some people in this life who have millions of dollars
but they are paralyzed from the legs down so they can't walk
So they have tons of money but they can't use it
They are some people in this life who have amazing athletic
capabilities but they have absolutely no money or they are sick or their mothers are
are sick or their brothers are sick or something. So each and every one of us
have test but it is really how we deal with these test
in this life and that is going to give us our break in the next life. The next life
is where everything is going to be even, its where everything
is going to be fair. This life not meant to be fair and I know that sounds harsh for you
but this life is not meant to be fair. Who ever said that this life was meant to be fair
This life is actually a gift and the fact that we are all here as who we are
is more then fair on our part. And the next life we are suppose to
level out the playing ground, inshAllah
Many of the debaters as far as religion goes, many of the atheist debaters
they base their religions or what they see
they been exposed to it Christianity at the best
so that argument in it of itself has actually died out
the atheist and theist debate. Why? Because one
The atheist have acknowledge that one the point has been made
that every bad thing, "bad thing"
that religion in general as far as war goes
secular ideals have caused exact same things
if you don't believe me check out history. World War 1, World War 2, Soviet Union
and those killings and mass murdering that have been happening
in the name of secular nations can be equated to whatever "bad things"
that have happened because of religion. One thing that they did
or that secular ideals don't have are the good things
that religion brings. And one of these interesting topics
are the benefits of the ideas of submission
and that's, its a really difficult
idea to convince somebody of but
but we have discussed here and as far as
the Master-Slave thing. That's something they dont get in their heads
The benefits of religion cannot be matched
by any benefits, no benefits that
But whatever they say negative that come with religion those can be matched with secular
but nothing of the benefits of Allah SWT deen
can be matched at all
