Hi, welcome back at the Berlinale 2014
We are now seated in a restaurant at Potsdamer Platz
Next to me is Diego Araujo, director of the Movie "Feriado" (eng: Holiday)
a Argentinean and Ecuadorian co-production
Nice to meet you, Diego, thanks for being here
What is "Holiday" about and why did you chose to make this movie?
Feriado (Holiday) talks about teenagers
at a very special moment of contemporary history in Ecuador.
In 1999 the banking system collapsed.
Numerous bank accounts were frozen, the country was paralized.
Many people lost all their money, many left the country.
But "Holiday" is also a story about teenagers in this historical context
It's a story of discovery.
A well-off teenager meets a lower-class teenager from a village
It's an encounter between two worlds,
The movie show different kind of discoveries:
for one of them, the discovery of his *** identity
but also the discovery of a new world. It's a story about growth.
Where exactly did you shoot the movie?
I understand that you are Ecuadorian, was it all shot in Ecuador?
50 % of the movie was filmed at a hacienda
in Ibarra, in the northern Region "La Esperanza" of Ecuador 50 % of the movie was filmed at a hacienda
in Ibarra, in the northern Region "La Esperanza" of Ecuador
which is a particular place in the Region of Magdalena
They say that Manuel Sáenz and Simón Bolivar
who were secret lovers, came there to hide.
The rest of the movie we filmed in Quito, in several areas
The world of Juan, the character from the village, is the ranch
while the world of Juan Pablo is the north of Quito.
We also shoot a scene, the waterfall scene, in Mindo
a subtropical forest located one hour and a half from Quito.
Many of our fans of viventura already know Quito and Ecuador
Could you recommend us some three places
that one has to see during a holiday in Ecuador?
Of course, I will tell you my favourite three places:
First Galapagos: it's a paradise
in no other place can you live in such harmony with nature
Second: Cotopaxi, the third highest volcano in Ecuador
Third: A place where we shot part of the film, Mindo.
In Quito the climate is very dry. You get out of Quito, going northwest
in one hour you find a subtropical forest, a very humid forest
Almost similar to the Amazonas. It's beautiful!
Are there any countries in South America that absolutely want to visit?
I would love to go to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo.
I have already been to Buenos Aires. I love this city, its diversity.
What a continent you have there!
Well, this was Diego Araujo with his movie "Holiday"
In a few minutes we will already the next interview,
also with a movie filmed in Ecuador
"The Galapagos Affair", a US production.

Thank you very much and best of luck for your movie!
