Ministry for Culture and Heritage are leading a project
to produce a comprehensive account
of the recent history of Treaty settlements.
The project will keep a record of historical narratives,
gathered from people who had major roles in the process,
to support each iwi settlement.
To date there has been no record kept of all participants,
indeed, several key figures have already passed on.
Ripeka Evans, who conceptualised the project,
say we risk losing valuable knowledge
if something is not done soon.
The first stage of the project is expected to deliver
two oral history projects of researched interviews.
One will focus on the leaders of the settlements process
and the other on iwi experiences.
It's expected the collated information
will be available by July 2014.
