Hello everybody, this is Sergio and for Toys Addicted.
I’ll show you today another Medicom production from the Real Action Heroes series
This is number 410. The great and legendary Solid Snake, more specifically the
“old” version of him as you can tell from the grey hair.
In fact this action figure refers to the latest and hopefully not the last episode of
the Metal Gear Solid saga in which Solid Snake is indeed old.
For those uneductated about the MGS saga, it might be worth mentioning this is
one of the longest running videogame saga.
First episode came out on the MSX2 platform in 1987.
His creator, Hideo Kojima, is idolized by many enthusisats as his games are really
well done, technically advanced and with spectacular stories and character design.
Once again, many thanks to GamePlanet for giving us the opportunity to check
this awesome action figure for the purpose of this review.
As I was saying before, this is number 410 of the Real Action Heroes series.
This version of Old Snake is limited.
In fact it is called “Olive drab version” as it is indeed painted differently
from the standard version.
It’s a very peculiar action figure especially due to its soft vynil coating.
As far as sculpture goes, it perfectly replicates the Octocamo suit worn by the
game protagonist which allows Solid Snake
to hide in whatever environment thanks to the ability of the suit to dynamically
change color to match the one around it, just like a chamaleon.
In the past, Medicom has released many Action Dolls related to the MGS series,
4 to be precise, all related to the 3rd chapter in the series, MGS: Snake Eater.
They indeed produced the action doll Snake Eater, and then, in 2005, two more
dolls entitiled “Square Camouflage version” and simply “Camouflage version”.
Lastly they released a “Cold War” version in 2009 replicating a young Snake
wearing a two-sided suit with Russian flag simbols on the front and American
flag ones on the back.
So, in 2009 two action figures based on MGS4: Guns of the Patriots were released.
One being this Snake one, and the other one being Raiden, a very good action
figure replicating a new co-protagonist to the series wearing a very nice hi-tech suit.
Despite the high quality of this action figure from an aesthetic point of view, as it
perfectly replicates the videogame counterpart, joints are not quite up to it.
In fact, due to the soft vynil coating, it’s basically impossible to put the action
figure in any pose other than the basic one.
If you try to reproduce some “action poses” seen in the videogame you’ll notice
the shortcomings.
As you can see on the legs here, the elastic nature of the suit doesn’t allow for
any dynamic pose to stay rigid.
As you can see on the arm here, sadly it’s not possible to have it at a 90° angle so
having it holding the rifle (which I will show you later) is not easy.
That said, the inner body is still a Medicom one, not of the most recent ones,
therefore joints a very fragile.
For this reason I wouldn’t suggest to attempt extreme poses.
You might damage the inner body, which is not easy to repair since it totally embedded
in the unremoavable vynil coating.
As far as the scultpure goes, I don’t like the hands, which are not
interchangeable, and not rigid either since they are basically part of the vynil
suit. They are soft and therefore fingers keep their default position.
The face sculpture is quite bidimentional.
It replicates the face of the videogame character but it’s quite flat.
You can see the eye here being unexpressive.
We also have the scultpure of the Solid Eye system which is a monocle allowing
Solid Snake to receive images from the videocamera mounted on his little robot
companion MK-II.
Anyway, face sculpture is quite average.
As far as accessories are concerned, we have this nice vest here covering most of
Snake’s torso and parts of the pelvis.
It’s really well done albeit velcro isn’t very resistant, so I suggest to avoid playing
around with it too much.
All sockets and little bags are fully functional, zippers and all.
Here we’ve got the gun holder, which to be true is a little too tight so the gun
doesn’t fit comfortably.
It’s sticks out a bit.
Here on the back we have the knife holder.
Buckles are all working so you can theoretically remove the whole vest, but
putting it back up is quite hard so I advise against doing it.
Now let’s talk about the weapons.
