Hello Everyone - This week, we are in Module 6 of our class. Let's take a look at the activities
for this week. We are continuing our exploration of preparing for your career. So, for the
week, we are going to read Chapter 6 from your textbook, which is about preparing for
the future workplace. We have a discussion that covers the topic of interview skills.
You will need to do a job reflection essay, and you will also need to submit a DRAFT of
your resume. Let's take a closer look at each of these activities. I'm going to click on
Module 6 Activities, and first, let's look at Discussion 6 on Interview Skills. This
discussion assignment asks you to watch two different videos in GALILEO - there are links
to them right here - and then after you've watched these videos, answer a couple of questions.
This forces you to look at common mistakes that are made in interviews, and then asks
you if you feel that you are ready to "get it right" at your next interview. And, of
course, remember that you must respond to at least two other discussion posts to get
full credit for that discussion. Let's look at the job reflection essay assignment. This
assignment ties back to your reading from Chapter 6 of your textbook, so, in Chapter
6, on pages 74 and 75, there's an exercise. You'll need to complete that, and then, in
a Word document, you will need to enter that information from that exercise, and then write
at least two paragraphs that answer the questions at the end of the exercise. That's the job
reflection essay assignment. Next is the DRAFT resume assignment. Remember that this is just
a DRAFT, but you need to do a good job on this because I will critique your draft resume
and give you some suggestions for improvement as we move toward submitting the final version
of your resume. When you go to this assignment in the dropbox, notice that there's a link
here to a document that gives you an example of what a BAD resume looks like. You really
need to take a look at that first, before you submit the draft of your own resume, so
that you don't repeat any of those mistakes. So, those are our assignments for this week.
One other important factor for this week -- Wednesday, November the 13th, is the last day to withdraw
from this class without a failing grade, so take a look at your grades, see how you feel
about your success so far in the class, think about your potential to successfully complete
the class. If you need to withdraw from the class, please be sure that you do that before
Wednesday, November the 13th. If you have questions about any of the activities or the
assignments for this week in our class, please call me or send me an email and let me know,
and I'll be glad to answer your questions. Thank you.
