Hi, my name is Eric Schmid.
I'm a photographer based in Switzerland near Zurich.
One of my main focuses in photography is sports photography.
I've been using Phase One for quite a while now with the P 45+,
and now I have the chance to try the new IQ180 with the newest lens,
the 150mm leaf shutter.
I was lucky to have a great wakeboarder, Andy Meyenberg, around where I live.
He's a five times world champion.
First part of the shoot was with a helicopter which means very expensive,
not much time.
You have to be fast and to be sure that everything works perfectly.
I was amazed how great auto focus was. I could fully rely on the auto focus.
Also a quick look at the display. Double touch and I had a 100 % picture
and I could check the focus.
This meant no time lost in connecting cameras to a laptop.
The second part of the shoot was shooting from the water level.
Me sitting in a rubber ring hold by the motorboat.
Large fear is at first: Don't drop the camera!
What was amazing is the camera, its functions.
That many details aren't computer based or touch screen based
but they are manually adjustable like from auto focus to manual focus.
The boat was hold with about 40 km/h and imagine how big the vibrations were.
I set the speed to ISO in 400 so that I could go up to
3200 of a second to shoot with.
There is more or less no other camera in this medium range that has
this fast shutter speed, and this helps very much with sports.
Part of the shoot was also chasing the wakeboarder from a second boat.
We'd use the 150mm lens again with the leaf shutter which means I can flash
up to 1600 of a second.
It was amazing to see that there was no blur in the picture at all.
Normally you don't get that when you shoot with other cameras.
It always blurs even though you have a quite fast flash light.
But these cameras and lenses with the shutter are just fantastic to have.
My overall impression of the camera is that it's a fantastic camera.
It's fast, the auto focus is totally reliable, files are big.
You can do cropping and it's still bigger than any DSLR.
I know now that I have to save up for the IQ180.
Because this one tops everything I have seen so far.
