I will demonstrate how to search for articles using the subscription databases through the integrated search box.
In the integrated search box, let's type our terms polar bears and global warming.
Click on go to start your search
Here are the results generated from our search.
Let’s take a look at the overall results
As you can see you have options to obtaining the article content, either Retrieve Item or Get It from UNCW
As well as options of HTML full text and PDF full text
Most of the articles that you find in your research will not always have direct access to the article content online
You will need to check the get it from UNCW link
The next screen is the WebBridge, here you will need to select UNC Wilmington from the drop down menu, then click submit to continue
The get it from UNCW screen is the holding summary screen
Here you can determine if, another subscription database gives you online full text of the article;
Or if the library has the article in print or other formats
Or if the library does not have access to the article where you may need to request the article through Interlibrary loan.
Let’s look at some more examples
In this example, there is no online full text access provided by another subscription database.
Your next option is to click on the UNCW library catalog ISSN search link.
If the library has access to this resource, you will go directly to the library catalog record for holdings information.
As you can see from the library holdings screen the library has access to some online full text content as well as print and other formats.
Looking at the article citation, you may notice the publication date.
The date falls within the online subscription databases electronic availability date range.
Click the Proquest Newsstand link to get the online full text of the article.
Another Example
This article also does not have online full text access.
Your next option is click on the UNCW library catalog ISSN search link.
If the library has access to this resource, you will go directly to the library catalog record for holdings information.
As you can see the library has access to the print collection.
Looking at the article citation date and the library's summary holdings, we actually do not have access to this article.
So what if you want this article.
The next thing is to click on the other open tab, the WebBridge Resolution Server tab, also known as the Get it from UNCW page.
You will need to click on the UNCW Interlibrary Loan link.
This will open up in the previous tab.
You will need to have an interlibrary loan account setup.
Be sure to click the First Time Users if you do not have an account already setup.
If you do, go ahead login with your campus username and password, click Logon to Illiad.
Here is the form already filled out with the appropriate information.
You will click submit request. This service will take a minimum of three days to a maximum of few weeks to retrieve the item. And you will be notified by email.
