My name is *** Yan and I studied Mining Engineering at Federation University.
I came to Australia in 2011. I finished my Year 12 in China
and I came to Melbourne to study Translating and Interpreting.
I chose Federation University as my second step. My mum helped me choose the University.
We find a mining career here in Australia is very promising
and very good career opportunities. So we did a bit of research and yeah,
Federation University is the only University in Victoria that offers Mining Engineering subjects,
so that's why I came here. Yeah people from all over the world,
International students come here to study all different subjects.
We like a big family.
I still remember the first time I came here it was Orientation Day especially for International students
and that day the University provided some very brief but very essential information.
I got my first timetable; I got a Ballarat city map; I even got a train timetable from
Ballarat to Melbourne, and I also got a Myki card which is for transportation.
Each school has their mentors that cover a group of students. The mentor will help the
student with their transition to the Uni. Compared to my previous study experience in Melbourne,
I think studying in a regional city like Ballarat is more quiet and gives me more
time to focus on my study. We play soccer every Monday at the new gym is very newly built.
It is very clean and very professional. I was also the manager of the University indoor
soccer team at the Southern Uni Games. Yeah it was pretty fun!
Federation University is really a stepping stone for me to fulfill my career dreams.
