>> MADONNA - I was always fascinating by the story of the Duke and the Duchess. Every time
I'd go out to dinner, I'd bring up their name at a dinner party and it would be like throwing
a molotov cocktail onto the table. Suddenly, the table would erupt and everyone would get
into an argument about who they were.
>> MADONNA - As I read their story, my feelings towards them kept changing
>> MADONNA - She was and is a very provocative character is the history of world politics
and the world of fashion and you know the decision that King Edward the eighth made
to leave the throne. I mean I don't think it was ever done before, it changed the British
Empire, it changed things enormously. And she is a mysterious enigmatic creature, not
conventionally beautiful, not young, not you know, twice divorced, not anything fabulous
about her background and somehow she managed to capture the heart of the man, who at the
time, held the most important position in the world and that story intrigued me.
>> ANDREA WISEBOROUGH - Madonna's passion for really uncovering the vulnerability of who she might have
been behind the public eye was infectuous. And from that point on I felt that we discovered
the same person and that was a real complicity between us artistically. I was something that
I enjoyed, it was something I found very fulfilling.
>> MADONNA - Okay ladies are you ready?
>> MADONNA - Perfect. Check the gate.
>> MADONNA - I can tell when people are viewing my film and when they are reviewing me personally.
I welcome criticisms of my film when it's viewed as an artistic form and not when people
are mentioning things about my personal life or my achievements in any other field because
they are irrelevant to the film. So when they stick to the film, then I do care, I mean
I pay attention to it.
>> MADONNA - Cut!
