Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's NFL Football Cupcake Tutorial where we'll be showing
you how to make this cupcake, beautiful little NFL cupcake which you can theme to suit your
supporting team. Tools and equipment that we will be using
today: I have some just regular household scotch
sticky tape. I have a lollipop stick which I've just cut
in half today. You can also use a cocktail stick if you don't have lollipop sticks or
you could use a pretzel, a long pretzel stick, or something along those lines.
I have some [banner] flags which I've just printed out on standard household printer.
I've got some Giants and some Patriots flags today but you could obviously choose to print
your flags out for whichever team you like. I also have some Clinkers candy. Now, clinkers
are a fantastic football-shaped chocolate covered candy so if you can't find clinkers
where you are, you could also roll some brown fondant.
I have some melted white chocolate. And I have a little bit of our buttercream
frosting which I have colored green. Buttercream frosting you want today, this lovely spoon-able
consistency. Nice and firm so we can get this grass effect. If you are having trouble with
your buttercream frosting, we do have a tutorial dedicated to the perfect buttercream frosting
so feel free to check this out. We'll give you some hints and tips on how to get it right,
as well as a great tasting recipe. I have my cupcake ready to decorate.
I have a standard kitchen knife, just a butter knife.
I have a pair of household scissors. And I have two sandwich bags, so just standard
sandwich bags. They don't have to be that big. You could use quite small ones because
we're going to be using them just for a little bit of a [day tile] work.
So let's get started. First of all, I'm going to make my team flags,
might make this one a Giant's flag. So I'm going to take my scotch tape, just pull a
little off there. I'm going to take my lollipop stick and my flag. Turn the flag around so
you're working with the back of it. Place the lollipop stick just a little bit in. Alright,
a little bit in from the edge of the flag. Take your little bit of scotch tape and just
stick it over so that it's not protruding over the edge of that [banner] flag. Quite
simple and you can make this well in advance. There's your little [banner] flag.
Alright, nextly, we're going to get our football ready. So to get our football ready, we take
one of our little sandwich bags. We're going to open it up and I'm just going to pop in
a little bit of white chocolate. You don't need much white chocolate. We're just going
to use it to do the laces and the stripe on the football. So I'm going to pull out one
of my Clinkers chocolates that I think is a good football size and shape. Make sure
you've got a few spare of this because if you do have an issue with your laces and with
your striping, you do may wish to try again. Now with this bag, you can see the corner
here, I'm just going to snip off the tiniest little bit at the end. So take those kitchen
scissors and just tip of a really nice little fine point. We're going to use this bag with
our white chocolate in it to make the laces. Now when I pipe laces through a bag like this,
I like to attach it to the chocolate at a point, then lift the bag up, get to your end
point before putting it down again. It just helps you to get a little nice straight line.
Turn that one around. Now be careful not to drag through that line of chocolate because
you don't want to smudge it. So once again, your start point, go over that center line,
pop it down on the end point. Start point, over the center line, and on the end point,
start point, over the center line. You can do 3 or 4 laces depending on what you think
is going to fit there. I'm pretty happy with that. Alright, stand that one line out a little
bit. Okay, and now we're going to do our stripes
at either end of the football. For this, I'm just going to turn it at on angle. I'm going
to... same again. Don't worry if you get a little bit on the bench here. So I'm just
going to let it slide on the bench and just go over a nice straight line, and again, over
here. Alright, we'll pick that one up and we'll let that dry over with our little flag.
Just so you can see that one up nice and close. There's your little football. There's nothing
on the back of it but that's okay because we're going to stand it up in our frosting
in the back. It's not really going to be seen. Now moving on to frosting our cupcake. We
have our green frosting as I've mentioned. I'm going to take that frosting just with
a spoon. I'm just going to spoon a nice blob of it there. You can see how firm that frosting
is. It's a really good base to get starting with. I'm going to take the back of my butter
knife. And I'm just going to smooth it out towards the edges of the cupcake wrapper.
Make sure you just smooth it out to the edges. Try not to go back around it because you'll
make a big mess in the actually patty pan there and it won't look as neat. You really
just want to get it into a little [mount] shape. And this is just so you're not going
to have to work so hard to get the covering of grass when we get to that stage.
Okay, for the grass. You can get a grass piping tip. But not everyone will have this at home.
So for this, I'm just going to use another one of our sandwich bags which I'm going to
fill with some more of our buttercream. This is a great tutorial because you really don't
need to have any cake decorating tools. You can just use things that you've already got
at home in your (Inaudible 05:59). Beautiful. Alright, I'm just going to push that down
to the end of the bag there as far as I can go. Now for this one, I'm going to cut the
bag in a v-shape so I'm going to cut it essentially in line with the bag so that there's a point
to the end. So one snip across like that and then another snip across like that. So if
you can see that, see how I've got my frosting coming out at the end there? You can see it's
sort of like a little V or a little bird beak. Now, to get this lovely grass effect, I'm
going to start in the middle. I'm just going to attach and pull, attach and pull. Make
sure you turn the bag around a little bit. Turn the bag around a little bit so that all
your grass isn't going in the one direction. It will look like it's been mown a little
bit too neatly. I want it to look nice and grass-like. This does take a little while
whether you're using this bag method or whether you're using the grass piping tip, really
still takes quite a while. Alright, so we're just finishing off our lovely
grass coverage there. You can see that's what we've ended up with, nice rough, grassy-looking
football field if you [will]. From here, it's relatively simple. I'm just
going to take the Giant's flag. Pop it in. Push it into the cupcake. And then I'm going
to take our pre-made football. If you do have a better end right there, I'm probably a little
happier with the other end so I'm going to... so I'm going to pop that upside down. And
I'm just going to slide that into the frosting. Really easy. Really simple. You can make those
banner flags and also that football a couple of days beforehand so that on the actual date
that you bake the cupcakes, you don't have to do too much work while you're entertaining
your guests. So there we have our great NFL Football Cupcakes.
