If you’ve been hearing a lot about indie bands covering the Grateful Deadlately, well, there’s a very good reason for that.
To benefit the ***/AIDS non-profit Red Hot, dozens of alternative artists got together to cover Jerry Garcia and company for the new 59-track comp Day of the Dead.
The National -- whose members Aaron and Bryce Dessner helped helm the project -- appeared
on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night (May 9) to perform one of these tracks: the '60s protest song “Morning Dew.”

and some added live musicians:
Day of the Dead is out May 20 via 4AD, available digitally, as a 5 CD collection, and as a vinyl box set.

At this year’s Eaux Claires fest (Aug. 12-13) Aaron Dessner
and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon will lead a Day of the Dead set featuring numerous other artists on hand at the Wisconsin show.
