Two billion dollars, one trillion TV ads and three debates later...has anything changed?
This is Buzz60 Politics, I'm Jay DeDapper.
Now that we’re in the home stretch of the Presidential race, it’s worth taking a trip
down memory lane – all the way back to May – for a reality check.
By May Mitt Romney had wrapped up the Republican nomination and Barack Obama was ready to unleash
his summer of fury TV ad barrage designed to paint his opponent as an extreme out-of-touch
rich guy.
Since then there’ve been gaffes and goofs, conventions and debates and the politeratti
is stunned about where this race is.
But why?
Using the Real Clear Politics average of polls go back to May – in Ohio Obama was ahead
by 4, in Virginia he was ahead by 3 and in Colorado up by just under 2. Romney was ahead
by a half point in Florida.
And now? Obama is ahead by 2 in Ohio and tied in Virginia and Colorado and Romney is up
by 2 in Florida.
So the race has tightened ever so slightly – but that’s what everybody predicted
would happen back in May when it was already really close.
