>> I've actually made jewelry since I can remember.
Just kind of seeing jewelry in stores, and I would try
to go home and make it instead of always buying things.
I'm just the type of person who needs a creative outlet
of some sort, and it's really relaxing.
Like I know a lot of people who would just read and just have
that personal time, and for me its jewelry making.
A couple of my friends who were
in the couture a-la-carte class reached out to me and asked
if I wanted to get more involved and told me more about it.
There's a good variety, which I think is nice.
It's not all just jewelry.
There are clutches made from fabric from [inaudible],
which I think is really cool.
It, it shows how diverse the students here are.
I think that's why couture a-la-carte is so good
because people can go look at the jewelry and try it on
and see it in person and know someone
from UGA has made this piece.
I feel like I've learned about buying and stuff,
and like working as a team for sure.
Like a lot of girls really do like how we do [inaudible]
and they are like expensive in a lot of stores, and so,
I usually try to bring them for a better price
and it makes people happy.
I think that's it really cool that you can
like bring together all this merchandise from UGA students
and offer it to everyone.
>> Couture a-la-carte is part of retail entrepreneurship class.
I started this four years ago with the goal
of getting students engaged in entrepreneurship,
or encouraging them to take risks, calculated risks
on campus where it's still safe.
We used to operate out of a wooden push cart
and now we have advanced to a custom-built mobile golf cart
that is truly a pop-up boutique on campus.
The fashion merchandising students here at University
of Georgia operate the cart.
They are the sole owners, managers, buyers,
visual merchandisers, marketers, and it's for them
to practice their hand in pricing, selling,
as well as business ownership.
All the merchandise is handcrafted by students.
They're all unique, they're mostly one-of-a-kind.
And you're pretty much promised that no one else
on campus will be wearing the same thing as you.
