I first started taking normal classes I had no idea what I wanted to do. I got into the
automotive program just by wanting to fix my own car and it just happened I enjoyed
what I did and continued on with it. I finally walked into the shop and checking it out and
I saw that it was really they had a lot of good tools a lot of cool cars a lot of cool
projects a lot of room and ah and so it made me start thinking to start it. The reason
I came to RCC was because I like to work with vehicles I grew up working with my dad on
our vehicles when they break down and I just decided to go from there and start a career.
When I first came here I was skeptical about how I would do and they completely reinforced
my confidence and now I don't even care whatever job you have for me just through me on it
and I will just go for it. The RCC instructors know their field very well there are top of
their profession they really know what's going on when they are teaching the kids their kids
come out really knowing what they are doing. The instructors at the automotive program
were awesome. They were very much geared toward helping me find a job so I could back to working
because I was a man with a family. I believe they cared a lot about us and wanted to see
us how far we can go in the program not only in the program but in real life. They have
so much experience they can just let you know what you need to do. They tell you what you
need to know and tell you to take it apart and if you have any questions you ask them.
Don't worry to bad if you mess something up you know you can always try again and get
it right the next time so don't be too afraid jump into things and go for it. It is not
just a regular student teacher atmosphere it really feels like family here. Here at
RCC we provide access to the more recent technology the students will be using in the field. The
best thing that I love about automotive is the hands on experience. They don't focus
namely on sitting in class and reading a book they put your hands on cars. The equipment
that RCC had there was great to learn on because it did help me prepare for the equipment we
have at the shop here. Working on cars like this is something that the students will get
to do in our program we have some people who bring hot rods into our shop and we do hot
rod work and the students get to do everything the students do all the work on everything
so you are going to get a wide variety of different types of jobs that you are going
to be able to do. Here at RCC we work with a lot of local businesses and we are able
to place our students we have approximately an 85 to 90 percent placements at some of
those repair facilities. Right after I graduated I was already hooked up with a job. I am a
graduate of the RCC automotive program I now work at Butler Hyundai automotive. We stay
in contact all year around they often swing by the shop checking on their student's even
years after they have graduated. They still want to hear from us even though we have graduated
see how we are doing in a real life shop. We get out fairly often and we like to keep
track of them we have an account set up on Facebook they will report in to us on how
they are doing and it's very exciting to see our students out there working and being happy
making money providing income to their families. And that's what we are all about here training
somebody and putting them to work.
