our goal is very basic research we're trying to understand the sensory
mechanism implants
but it has implications uh... both for growing plants in space in the long term
as well as
uh... improving crop plants on Earth
We actually prepared our samples at nasa ames research center
in california
and the nasa personnel are going to be bringing the samples
to kennedy space center actually today and will be there at the launch two
make sure everything is right it and all the last minute details are okay
the space flight the launch is really the most visible
efforts of a larger scale
projects so it's it's really exciting to see it
in fruition
especially after
waiting uh...
about two years for the opportunity i think you know all research is very
collaborative and this is sort of like an extreme example collaboration where
we have
are astronaut colleagues
and i feel pretty good about it because most of those people are actually
p_h_d_s scientists so i think they'll do a great job
once the samples are up there the experiment right now is scheduled to
activate or start in late
march
and that'll take about it
a month or so to do the experiment
and then the samples the plants are frozen at the end
and um... it's unclear when we're going to be doing them back for probably
uh... sometime in the fall we'll come back on our return mission of spaceX
probably on SpaceX3
