We are going to be using this wreath cutter
this cutters from coppergifts.com I've traced it
and created a template here
now you can see the Grinch is in the middle of the wreath, I tried to
incorporate him into the design
make it look a little bit more composed
now we're going to create
are stencil to transfer the design to the cookie
to do that I'm using here and embroidery hoop
some very fine mesh which you lay on top of the hoop
and then you place this
on top the design in question that you want to transfer
and then with some royal icing we're going to trace this out
doesn't matter what colour icing
whatever you have left we're simply going to be piping
onto the mesh
I am going to do the bow as well
Here are my cookies
I baked them and now they're cooled I've got some royal icing here that I've added some
lemon juice to make it more runny and I'm applying it on the cookie with a
paintbrush
I'm gauging where my designs is going to be
now here I need to cover where the the Grinch is going to be
I'm gonna leave about half an inch with nothing. Like that
probably one of the easiest ways to apply
icing to a cookie and this base coat
dries very quickly so you can run through your
your batch very fast
here's the cookie
the surface is dry I've got my transfer that I made earlier with the
mesh
and we're gonna lay that on the cookie surface
here we go and now we're just going to mark our lines
you air brushed the surface and your character
and there's our outline
you see, so that we can pipe the character
and we've got that first line here
that was transferred from the mesh very easy to follow
we're doing the whole bow as one being mass
and then we're gonna come back and just do
the two loops so that their higher up
from the ribbon tail, we're just gonna
flood this right away cuz I don't want any separation between
the outline and flood line
there we go, now using a
needle tool to smooth out the icing
once I've got it pretty much
good I can take the cookie and just shake the cookie
and this smooths the surface of the
icing as you can see, I've got black royal icing now
and I'm going to be outlining the Grinch. When you're working
on a small cookie like this
the lines look quite big so with a 1.5 tip
it's not too bad you can get some detail
without the lines looking super fat half the line
gets hidden when you flood and the cookie
for example the inside of the hat here will hide half of this
black line. Now here I can't really make out my
my lines so I'm just looking at the original up there
The hat trim looks like a cloud
just doing scallops, there we go.
and now
his collar fur
there
his face
neck
now for his nose I'm just filling in his nose black
and later I am going to come in and
create a 3d nose
in the green
it'll be sticking out a little bit
you'll see when I'm done once we flood all this
the nose will be on top at the black and it'll look like a little bit more
two-dimensional
I forgot the lines here
I flooded his hat & coat
coming in now with my red
there we go
and using my needle tool
push my icing to touch the edges now we're gonna do his
his coat here and I'm just
piping on line against the black one
just like that
now I am going to grab a paintbrush just going to
pull the icing down we're going to be
piping some leaves on the wreath
this smooths down the surface for the edge decoration
you can pick it up and give it a shake
alright an now we are gonna do the bow
here the center of the bow
looking at that
design here, once thats crusted will do the two outer
sections
now I'm working on his eyes
I'm just filling in this section here
using the yellow colour
now grabbing my red with a very small tip
and I'm just doing the center for his eyes
you can shake that to smooth it out
working on
bow you do the first
loop up here, flood that
now grab your black icing right away
and then a dot here and here
with your needle tool create a tear shape
shack the
tear shaped
you can shake the cooking
to get the ripples out now do the other side
there we go and flood that
be sure to wipe the end of your needle
before you put it in the icing
or you will get it messed up
coming along, he is slowly coming to life
his hat now, as we flood the sections the black lines get more narrow
You are better to do it this way rather than piping on top of the character creating a FAT outline
this takes away from your design
not to mention if you're not perfect at piping
you know it will really show
this way your lines are not super apparent
this technique camouflages imperfect lines
now we're filling in his his neck and face
I'm using electric green by americolour
lets start with his neck, I have a very small tip
a PME 1.5
the holes are small and I want to maintain control
you don't want the green to seep over
the black line and
mess up your design
you see by doing his nose black there
I know where to come back after and draw is nose
I'll fill that area later
with this green icing
my icing is just soft enough to heal
but not soft enough to flow
freely I like to keep my icing
on the stiff side so I am the one deciding where it goes
if your icing is too runny
it will decide where it goes, gravity will decide
you're going to end up with a
sloppy finish product, shack him out and there he is.
I'm gonna wait till he crusts and then I'll come back
and do his nose
What I am doing is 2 dots on either side
Here is a finished nose
creating his nostril letting that crust
and now I'm coming in and doing a bigger dot on top
as far as his eyebrows go I think I'll skip it to not mess his face up with a fat line
I'm thinking I'm either gonna paint them on our draw them on
I don't wanna mess up the clean design that I have
when you're working on small cookies like this kinda hard to do stuff like
eyelashes. What I've decided to do it make a green line on top of his eye
here a big tear shape
I will paint on that after in marker
he needs a brow since he is supposed to look mean
Now we're going to work on the actual wreath
I'm using leaf green and I've got star tip
and we're going to work our way around the cookie
you can finish off for wreath
with either a leaf tip really anything you have here I've got a star
and all I'm doing is swirls around a the cookie
like you would do on a cupcake
make sure your icing is stiff enough to hold a swirl
or else it will just fade away rotate your cookie
direction you're working to facilitate things sometimes just a little
shift will make your life easier
now if you let this crust a little bit you can come back after
for the second row
to keep them a little bit more separate here's my second row
keep them small don't crowd
your character or else he'll get lost in the icing
especially since this particular character is green
you don't want to crowd him
while that is wet grab your red icing and add some berries
I'm doing clusters and threes
no
right or wrong just
stagger them around
by using the start tip to make the swirls
you'll have less breakage if you use your leaf tip the leaves look nice
they stick out a little bit but
they can break. If you are planning on shipping or gifting these cookies
you don't want them to arrive with pieces broken off
This wreath design is a good way to incorporate a character
You could put a my little pony in the centre if you wanted
put to the characters from South Park you name it you could do it
using the image transfer technique
you won't have a problem
draw your character
the little berries add
to this design, here he is
all that's missing are a few
eyelashes and he's done. This part is not necessary
you don't wanna take that chance okay got black air brush colour and a
very very fine brush holding my hand to steady myself
trying to
and then
gently draw on the
lashes
it is up to you if you want to risk it.
but you could mess up your cookie
and the people who receive it don't notice that there's
eyelashes missing. Here he is is
