Vincent Panepinto: You know we were at Humber, we were studying these courses and we were
brainstorming around business concepts. One day Nick had came to me and he said
you know what, I just got back from the grocery store and they printed out a receipt for me this long.
I cannot believe that in this day and age with tablets and smartphones that merchants and consumers
are still using paper receipts.
Nicholas Wiktorczyk: What Spently really does is it makes it easy for merchants to create and
send targeted email receipts for their customers. So it's a web-application, you go online and
you sign up and right away you go and create your receipt and then you activate your store
and within minutes your customers are getting really beautiful receipts with special offers on them.
Vincent: We said, you know what, let's continue, we want to study business. He did philosophy, a little bit
of business, I did political science and we said we want to learn more so one of the programs
we found was Global Business Management at Humber and the reason we chose that
program was because it was very well-rounded. So it wasn't just a focus on marketing alone
It had marketing, finance, customer relationship management and this is the knowledge that you
would need to start a business.
Nick: Some of the professors at Humber were helping us, you know, steer us in the right direction,
giving us advice and mentorship and the following September the Humber New Venture Fund came out.
So it was perfect timing and everyone who we'd been working with told us you have to apply for the
Humber New Venture Fund, you'd be perfect for it so yeah we applied and we were one of the first recipients
of the eight thousand dollar award and that really was the real start of Spently and that
really gave us the validation that we needed to take the business forward.
